NOTES:
Soulcaster was built in XNA and originally appeared on Xbox Live Indie Games. It has been ported to PC (along with its sequel), and this HTML5 version is its latest incarnation, made possible with Kevin Gadd's JSIL technology.
This is kind of an experiment, offering the full game on Newgrounds for free--we're not sure what impact this will have on retail sales or what kind of ad revenue we'll get, but I'm excited to bring this game to a wider audience.
Drop me a line to let me know what you think!

I like the old school feel...kind of a new concept, no real attack mode, but still cool!!!!

Why doesn't this game save the progress?
It should autosave every level. If it's not doing that, your browser isn't 100% compatible. Maybe I will see if there's a way to detect that and warn the player. For now, use the very latest Chrome, IE or Firefox.

Chrome has this problem because it shares disk space for all games from the same domain (i.e. newgrounds.com). We're hoping they offer a solution to this because it's going to affect way more than just us, for portal sites... in the meantime please try with Firefox!

Fantastic game! Challenging enough to make me actually have to strategize, but not impossible by any means. I could tell the creator put a lot of thought into the balance of characters' strengths and weaknesses. Different character schemes/upgrades work.
The one thing I would have liked to see would have been save slots. My first game I upgraded blindly, and was sad to have to start the game over to reallocate gold. Save slots would allow you to upgrade to a certain point, but then experiment with different upgrades without committing to them.
If the game were any longer I would have added that. Escape Goat has save slots so I have code for it now, and will probably add slots when I make Soulcaster III. Thanks for your feedback!
