Soulcaster was built in XNA and originally appeared on Xbox Live Indie Games. It has been ported to PC (along with its sequel), and this HTML5 version is its latest incarnation, made possible with Kevin Gadd's JSIL technology.

This is kind of an experiment, offering the full game on Newgrounds for free--we're not sure what impact this will have on retail sales or what kind of ad revenue we'll get, but I'm excited to bring this game to a wider audience.

Drop me a line to let me know what you think!

We recommend using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to play, but a modern version of any web browser should work.

If the game is stuttering or lagging please ensure you have at least Firefox 16 or are running Google Chrome.

Known browser issues:
Internet Explorer 10 has a bug that makes text scroll off the screen.
Sound and music may not work in Safari.
If you run into issues in either of the above browsers, please try a different one. We apologize for the inconvenience!

If keyboard input isn't working, try clicking on the game window.

The game does not currently support touchscreens, so if you're on a phone or tablet, we apologize.

If the game fails to load or crashes, please click 'Show Log' and copy the text out of the log so that we can fix the crash. We really appreciate it.

Have fun!

I like this idea. Unfortunately I'm struggling with the controls. It will take a lot of practice to intuitively remember which key calls up which ally. Maybe you should have a picture of each type of ally and the associated key prominently displayed on the screen to help people learn. I also have a problem with the "recall", and the way it always removes the allies in the order you called them. This is also very difficult to get used to, and I died many times because it didn't work the way I was intuitively expecting. Maybe allow the player to recall an ally by clicking on them?

MagicalTimeBean responds:

Excellent feedback. For Soulcaster III, I will be adding a new way to recall a specific summon (for a small time penalty), and your suggestion for adding key/button icons for each summon type is great--I'll experiment with a few ways to do this to make the controls more intuitive.

I really look forward to playing it however I have a problem or bug.
The game only shows the two icons in the bottom middle of the screen labelled: Created by & Ported with. It also shows a: Show log & Full Screen button but neither do anything.

look forward to trying soon. Please don't just recommend using a different browser.
I've always used Windows Internet Explorer and I wont download a different one just for a game, no matter how good. My reason for that is because a game on the internet hould be supported by all browsers. I've heard great things so please get back to me.

I agree 100%, but this is sadly not the world we live in. This is like saying a game on the PC should be supported by all PC's regardless of hardware. The latest version of IE should work (it's worked for us) but there are so many variables, and only so many things we can control with the current state of HTML5 games.

It's alright, but very difficult, it seems you are constantly running, then getting trapped in corners unable to defend yourself.
