This is a 3D animated short film prologue I spent 9 months working on, it was made in Autodesk Maya and rendered using Pixar's Renderman. The film is about a mysterious character who explores the dark depths of a giant abandoned facility. The purpose of this instalment is to create an atmosphere and establish the environment. It acts as a prologue to a whole series of upcoming shorts films about the character's journey through the facility; this is just the first phase of the story.

The idea is great. The story has potential. The facility design is superb. Your choice of music is excellent. However, I do have a few complaints.

First, the movement of your character didn't seem real. The running didn't involve the upper half of his body at all, and the walking barely fixed this. Furthermore, he didn't move like someone who knew how to handle that weapon. Not while running, not while walking.

Second, the design of the helmet severely limits your characters field of vision. Most modern and futuristic helmet designs avoid this issue.

Third, some of your photography direction could use some work. For example, when the character walks into the- let's call it a control room- when they walk into the control room, the camera could have been a few inches lower. About eye-level for the character would have been much better in giving the audience a sense of "being there".

Solutions for these: 1) Study movement of trained soldiers. If you don't have access to a soldier to help you out with this, then watch some movies made in recent years that feature trained soldiers holding long guns while scouting or other such military maneuvers. Even if the movie is bad, you can just fast forward until you find a good scene to study. Also, try to involve the character's entire body in their movements, especially when walking or running.

2) Change the helmet. This will qualify as a bit of a retcon, but it's worth it as I'm not the only one who brought up the helmet. Simply put, redesign it. Your character is obviously supposed to be a trained soldier, and so should have as LITTLE vision impairment as possible.

3) For photography and camera angles.... well, just focus on making the audience feel like they're there. If YOU feel like that, then chances are they will too.

3.5 stars probably for no real story except hes trying to do something. But being that this is just a prologue I can't wait to see where this series goes. Character design is pretty cool and I really liked the little teaser of the protagonist. With a little more work this could be awesome way to go man f*** the haters bro

If I had a gun I would never wear a helmet like that. Too impeding on your vision rendering not only ranged combat, but movement useless considering peripherals are lost . I understand how it creates a certain atmosphere where there is a hidden character beyond a mask and the limitation on sight can make interesting fov; but I would consider expanding it. It's not something I'm considering in the review because that would be unfair, just some advice.

Now for the review. To begin you should work more on the fluidity of character movement. Let's just say that the protagonist looked like it was rollerskating on a treadmill of ice. It's like the ground is moving backwards. Also for some reason in lots of shots the lower half of the body is strange, now the thing about proportions is that it is fine to characterize them in an unrealistic manner, but you have to do this in a way that can be appealing to the eyes and also certain proportions draw attention to certain areas. All the behind shots I couldn't help but watch the character's ass because it was off. Design and the 3d affects were nice; but the environment coloration and character coloration wasn't. Everything is rather bland and so it all seemed to blend in. I like looking for details that stand out in animations and there weren't many that did. Don't get me wrong, character clothing should be uniform and environments as well, but there should be obvious characteristics that stand out to help draw attention to certain things or to help tell the story.

This is a lot of effort for nine months and I can appreciate what was done. The sound was alright but there was nothing spectacular about it. My biggest concern is the story. This prologue acts a lot like a trailer, and the purpose of a trailer is to captivate interest by exploiting intrigue and by revealing some of the plot. This doesn't do that. We enter a facility. Look at a computer. See a guy appear and disappear, and that's it. But this doesn't explain anything. Sure we don't want things spoiled, but there needed to be something interesting that would capture our attention. It's not enough to have some dude mysteriously disappear, that's boring. I hope you see what I mean and I wish you good luck on this project. It would be great to see the final results.

OHH MY GOD! 9 months doing a 3 minutes video? I can´t wait for so long doing a short video, i just wish you could have made it a little longer, if you can do another one, do it!

Why do you guys discredit this man because he uses 3-D?
All you guys use your mouse, draw somthing crappy, post it, say "Keep it up" and unfairly give it 5 stars. When a guy does 3-D, you go hard on him, dispite stunning graphics, Heavy polygonal detail and count enough to crash my computer, and beutiful amount of shading scripts and particles. And then you give him 2, 1, or Zero, because its "Unfair" of how easy it is to make 3-D art. Well, let me say, FUCK YOU! Do you know how hard it is to make model after model, paricle after particle, frame by frame, polygon after polygon, and have to rig it all? You guys are just getting your fucking mouse, moving somthing here to here, fucking around with a shitty microphone, and get 5 stars. This man may have had a team of 15 to 20 people, or himself, and take about a MONTH or even a YEAR to get it to the point where you can shut up. Yet you don't, and you act like a fanboy because you like one of the either. I just don't know why, because this man has the right to have this just as equally trated as a sexual-lobster or krinkles animation without prejudice. You guys are fucking annoying as hell, and probebly never touched a modeling program EVER. So give this guy the respect he does, and don't complain because of this and that, then point the positive on a flash. This was amazing, and I hope these haters don't let you down. 5 stars belong to you, my friend.
