A young girl accidentally ends up in the ruins of a city obsessed with chess. She is immediately confronted with the hospitality of the remaining denizens but also gains a companion who is as eager as her to escape this place.

After 10 years of lurking Newgrounds:
This is my thesis movie for my graduation as a communication designer with main focus on motion design. Be aware that I'm still a self-taught animator since I didn't go to a college dedicated to animation itself, just movie-making in general, hence Out of Order doesn't look as polished as I wish it would be. I am still proud of it though since this is only the beginning of my animation and storytelling career so it's bound to get alot better!
(I don't have to mention how deadlines chopped away at the storytelling pace, fbf animation and backgrounds.)

Part 2 is already in pre-production and I'm looking forward to work with all the awesome contributors again!

Looking forward to your constructive criticism!

Edit: Fun fact: I did everything with a half-dead mouse, just bought a tablet.

Edit2: Sound quality is stupid after that conversion stuff happened. I'll look into it.

Has some potential. story is interesting and i like the animation. Voice acting could use improvement though, not that its horrible.

I'd be happy to see where this goes. I'm a little iffy on some of the minor details, but I am quite interested.

Now for me something was wrong with the general sound. No, I'm not talking about the voice acting, even if it did sound slightly underwater "echo". Just the sound in general. I guess it just either didn't seem to match up, or it felt like there were times were there was too much silence. The issue with the sound is rather hard for me to put my finger on, it just felt off.

Visually it was alright. I think there were some details that could be worked on.

Your narration was somewhat bland. It wasn't bad, but very dry. It needs some more pow or something. Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Princess Bride. These movies had narrations that kept things interesting and kept you hooked. I don't see it the problem being the person narrating, but rather how he narrates. As a kid I use to be read to a lot by my relatives and growing up I've enjoyed being a story teller. You need to have the spunk from Bastion, the liveliness of Limitless.

Other than that you got some potential. As I understand from your description you are self-taught and I think that this being your first major flash on Newgrounds is quite a good start. You are heading somewhere with this and I can't wait to see the improvements.

3.5/5.

Shame you can't put your finger on the sound issues, every detail helps.
I actually intended for the narration to be dry and Ron Perlman'ish even though I knew this was bound to receive some flak. Something more lively just felt wrong for a dead city covered in dust.
Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts. :)

10 Years lurking? So it's not too late for me after all... I mean.
"Aeronautical propulsion device"? "Excrement"? When I heard the BGM of the opening, I couldn't help thinking "Not another generic mafia/hitman theme!" and then chess came into the picture... I must say, it was a welcome surprise. For the moment, I'm confused as to who the maincharacter is; the narrator/bandanamask, or the greenhaired girl... but either way, I look forward to more.

There can be more than one protagonist. :)
