I made this in 4 days for the kongregate game jam (was a 10 day competition, but I didn't start until Thursday). Then I spent 2 weeks fixing all the bugs.
Instructions: Use the mouse. Click things. Figure it out. Sorry, not enough time to make a tutorial.

Fun, fairly addictive game. I agree though, that medals or a "win" scenario would be nice, otherwise it's just continuous. You may also want to have difficulty adjustments. A tutorial OR a little more explanation of how evertyhing works in the comments would be beneficial. Still, a great game with lots of potential!

A game without an ending is pointless. Give the player SOMETHING once he has a huge healthy family. Right now, the game is do whatever you want until 12 of your family members die. Pointless.

This is a really great game. There are some impovements that could be made, but for the first verson of the game it is really good. If you are willing to make another one I would like to make some suggestions. First, in the main game I noticed the graves take up so much space and once they reach the house the game is over. This happens way too quickly since it is an addictive game. The music works great with this game and helps set the mood, so if you do make another please use music similar to that. The area of the game is also limited since you are viewing from the side. If you view from the top down you will have more area to place items. I also think the sign post should be 3 different signs so you can send 3 people out at the same time instead of just 1 at a time. The upgrades should also be availible to access at anytime instead of having the people waste more time trying to open the screen each time. It would be good to have them need to work for the upgrades, maybe by having 1 person staying longer on that spot to build the upgrade instead of having it roughly the same amount of time as anything else. I really did like the upgrades you made avaiblible, and the sandbox mode was a great add-on since the game itself feels so short... (not really short, but makes you end before you want to). Overall, I feel this was an awesome first attempt at this game and I hope you make another one.
