Abodekept is my reader-driven fan-adventure for Homestuck. If you would like to read it (or submit a command for the next update), you can follow the link by clicking the Sburb Alpha logo at the loading screen (which just takes you to this link: /showthread.php?48960-Abo dekept-%28Submission-driv en%29), Or by adding comments to our official site on the page you wish the command to be posted: ges/0027.html

I severely apologize for the wait, but now I have to leave for a family trip, so I cannot work on regular updates OR the second dream cloud. I will get to work as soon as I can though, and you can find more details on the forum page. At least I'm getting better at this thing.

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

I'm giving this a 3.5 star review because I can tell a lot of effort was put into this, and I know what a pain it is to use actionscript. However, posting your panels here should only be done for hosting purposes; NG is a place for full releases of original content. If you end up finishing the adventure and posting the comic per-act as a compiled movie, then maybe it would be presentable. The jokes are ok, pretty funny here and there. Try hosting your comic on ComicFury, they allow Flash uploads. It's well-made, but it's unfinished and unless people have read your comic prior to this they won't know what's going on. Keep up the good work, I'd like to see this finished.

This interactive waste of time should not even be allowed on this website. Just because you can point and click does not make it a game. According to the Merriam-Webster's dictionary, there are four noun definitions for the word "game."

a (1) : activity engaged in for diversion or amusement : play (2) : the equipment for a game
b : often derisive or mocking jesting : fun, sport <make game of a nervous player>

This "game" is not much of an activity and does not give any amusement and doesn't cause much of a diversion.

a : a procedure or strategy for gaining an end : tactic
b : an illegal or shady scheme or maneuver : racket

Where is the "end" to this "game." What is my goal in winning? There is none.

a (1) : a physical or mental competition conducted according to rules with the participants in direct opposition to each other (2) : a division of a larger contest (3) : the number of points necessary to win (4) : points scored in certain card games (as in all fours) by a player whose cards count up the highest (5) : the manner of playing in a contest (6) : the set of rules governing a game (7) : a particular aspect or phase of play in a game or sport <a football team's kicking game>
b plural : organized athletics
c (1) : a field of gainful activity : line <the newspaper game> (2) : any activity undertaken or regarded as a contest involving rivalry, strategy, or struggle <the dating game> <the game of politics>; also : the course or period of such an activity <got into aviation early in the game> (3) : area of expertise : specialty 3 <comedy is not my game>

This is is not a physical challenge or a mental challenge. There are no rules. There is no strategy. There is no struggle. This does not require any expertise.

a (1) : animals under pursuit or taken in hunting; especially : wild animals hunted for sport or food (2) : the flesh of game animals
b archaic : pluck
c : a target or object especially of ridicule or attack âEU"often used in the phrase fair game
âEU" game·like adjective

The last definition, I shouldn't have to explain why it does not apply.

So you see, according to the Merrian-Webster dictionary, this is not a game. This is an interactive waste of time as I stated before. I really wish I could give you a better rating.

No one cares when you get a game out. We just want new games. For me to wait for my computer to load this and then have it be so lame is just not right. Take it down and start over. Have a beginning, middle, end. Have a strategy to win. Make a game that the dictionary can define as a game.

Normally, I would put my rating for a game and a short description of why I gave the rating that I did and move on. However, with your responses to very accurately put ratings of your games that were short and sweet particularly to Akuma002, I felt the need to sit and spell out for you why this is not a game.

If you drew any pictures, then I will give you kudos for that and that only.

I hope you learned from this post.

HeirOfDrills responds:

I am aware of the proper definition for a game, and I respect that you gave an educated response as opposed to mere ranting. I do intend to make fuller games, but this was not so much a game, as it was an interactive continuation of a story. That means to accomplish and such that you mentioned numerous times, were to fill in points to a story.

True, this is not /REALLY/ a game. But I needed a place to host Flash that could be easily directable and safe, to post this continuation to a story. I can promise a real game of this story, but sadly, that time is no where near soon.

Also, Abodekept is a Homestuck Parody. And Homestuck employs small interactive Flash Minigames very similar to this, which was also sort of the point. It was also so that I can expand upon the format that Abodekept is written in.

Not to mention, Homestuck is a Videogame inspired, Videogame parody, and as such is Abodekept.

Also, I apologize for wasting your time, but the loading is usually rather fast for most Abodekept readers and the actual play through is usually rather fast, and is used as both interactive interface to explore Terra's Computer, to show a full length [S] animation, and to set up the next part of the comic.

If it makes this game seem any less like total trash, it may make more sense to watch the comic from the start and understand the point of these pages.

I am by no means forcing you, or inviting you to "waste your time" and I do appreciate your response, even if it was just to criticize something that I kind of already understood :P

Thank you. :)

EDIT: Remember how I said there will be a real game? Yes. I can promise you that at the beginning of Act 2 now. It's already well into the development stage :)

it sucks

HeirOfDrills responds:

That sure is a descriptive review of content, thanks for the feedback, I'll be sure to improve upon what you have brought to my attention in the future. ;)

i dont like this GAME

HeirOfDrills responds:

Are you implying it isn't a game? Because it sounds like you are. And the last time I checked, anything that is interactive could easily be called a game. It is literally based off of a mock-up text based adventure game. I don't know what else to tell you XD

It's fine if you don't like it though. if I got haters, it means I'm doing something right! ;D

Besides, if it isn't a game, then what is it? It's not exactly a movie :P
