EDIT: Ver 1.5 is up. I've tweaked the running and braking a little. Movement should be more fluid now. I've also enlarged the offscreen window, so NPC popup should be nonexistant now. Enjoy and keep up with the feedback!

Sorry for the outline thing. It won't appear again.

I got a good first impression of this game. The character spawning on top of the title was interesting, and the delete save function was pretty original, though nothing ground breaking.

I fell down, talked to some NPCs which said some unimportant things(this is probably for the best, though), read the sign telling me where to go first, and went to the waterfall place. It was then, I realized one of the reasons I can't give this game a 5/5:

The controls need polishing. Moving the character felt very awkward, and navigating from place-to-place was very difficult. Discovering how much of a train-wreck the controls were literally made me want to quit right then and there. However, I pressed on, and eventually acquired the ability to double-jump.

Then I found a treasure chest with a chicken inside of it. The medal I acquired for getting it was called "Destroyer of Heroes", which made me grin. This also brings me to another point: this game is somewhat witty. Definitely a plus.

The coin challenges in this game are... pretty easy. I got half of them on my first try, the other two I got on my second try. You should have made them a bit harder, in my opinion. Especially since you didn't have to get all the coins to continue. That said, while they are easy, I did enjoy them very much.

The fighting in this game was lackluster, and in my opinion, the game would have been better off without it.

So with all these problems, why does this game still get a 4/5? Well, because of its genre. I love adventure-platformer games. Sometimes I just wanna control a sprite, have it jump all over the place to look for stuff, and explore colorful environmens. Really, if you fix the bad controls, take out the combat or fix it, and make the coin collection events a tad harder, this would easily get a 5/5 and go on my top 10 games of all time.

I love this game. It's fun, it's classy. It's enjoyable. Two issues, though one issue is more of an issue than the other. Let's start with the more important one. In the cave; glitched through the floor while trying to double jump. In fact, most of your corners are glitchy in some way or other; though mostly sound echoing; which is funny to do next to a ram. eue
ANYWAY. The second issue, which is more stylistic than anything else; the coin races are indeed FUN, but the one at the tree is easily the most difficult. After all, you can't even /see/ where a majority of the coins are. Look over your code, or aesthetics and see if you can fix that. Otherwise, this game is another great in my list of few that have come from any jam project. Hats off to you.

I'm reading every single review looking for things to improve for an update or a sequel. I'll check the cave map in order to find the glitch you are talking about.
Regarding the tree, I've placed the coins so that their position corresponds to the visible holes in the tree, so there are coins only where you can see them. The rest of the tree is empty.
Thank you for the feedback!

Fantastic Game. I'm giving it 4.5 stars because I do have a few gripes

Gripe 1: The controls can be a tad messy. Not a huge deal, but I felt I didn't have as much control as I wanted. The game could be laggy sometimes, which is something many games are guilty of, but it seemed like the jumps could be all over the place sometimes and running to get coins could sometimes be crazy as well. Maybe it's my browser though.(I use Google Chrome)

Gripe 2: Although the game was fun, it was really short for me. I found all of the treasures, perfected all the coin runs, and beat the game in just over an hour. There were only 2 enemies and they were very easy to kill. There were only 2 other things that could hurt you and I don't want to spoil it for anybody but the author should know what I'm talking about.

Gripe 3: The story was lackluster in my opinion. I didn't really care if the main character were to die or get raped by a gnome army. There was no real antagonist to look forward to fighting. I understand that the goal of the game was more geared toward finding treasures, but a stronger plot with a villain or rival could have made it so much better.

The game has so much potential and I'm hoping for some kind of sequel or a game similar to it, just with more detail and better controls. Maybe with some other cool mechanics? More enemies, more treasure that are harder to find, more coin runs, and more obstacles.

Nevertheless, this is a great game. Kudos to the author. I don't want to hand out a 5 star rating to a game that I feel can be improved, but with some changes this game I would consider buying this game on XBLA or The 3DS online store.
