Watch Funny School Things 2:

Almost an entire year behind schedule, here is Funny School Things Redux. It's a remade-from-scratch collection of short skits based on real things that happened to my friends and I. It's completely rewritten, reanimated, and re-voiced. Two new skits have been added (written by Ana Reyes and Melissa Spanton), the voiceactor total has jumped from 2 to 18, and a whole bunch of new extras have been added to the mix. If you enjoyed it, be sure to check out part 2! (The link is at the top). There is also a separate Extras upload containing bloopers, animatics, concept art, and etc., for those interested in seeing that stuff =).

There is an easter egg on the main menu.
Runtime (w/o credits): 6:19

The graphics are pretty good here. The backgrounds are very detailed (which I really like) and the characters look good as well. Animation is fluent most of the time, so that's another good thing.

The voice acting isn't that great most of the time. Some voices really lack some emotions and they don't sound very good at all.

The "story" (well, the "funny school things") sometims are funny. And I think some things are only funny if you witnessed them live (ie, you have some background information). My favortie one was the "I've seen Hobos do it, so why can't I?"

I'm glad you enjoyed the graphics. I hear a lot of people compliment my backgrounds, which makes me happy, though I personally feel like I pour a little too much time into small background details. There were a couple skits where I really tried to tone down the background, or put a little less focus on it so I could focus more on the characters. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the voiceacting. I used a wide variety of my fiends in this animation, and none of us are professionals, so I understand that it might not come off as that great sometimes. I am glad that you liked some of the skits though, and I do understand the fact that some of them are probably a lot funnier to those that were actually there to witness it, but I knew that might happen with some of the project as I was beginning work on it. Thanks for the long and detailed review =)!

The best part was when the teacher was flipping to the kids.

Aqlex responds:

I always get different responses as to what different people's favorite skits are, which is one reason I wanted to do this animation: it contains many skits, so I was hoping that different people would all find something they enjoyed among the many skits. Thank you for writing a review

It was ok, but a few things

Voice acting was echoey, and some of it was lacking emotion, or sounded really forced.
The Jokes were kind of flat, and some were just not funny. I get the point this is supposed to be about things that happened in (your?) school, so I understand you wouldn't just go off the wall and make an extremely funny situation up that couldn't happen in school. The Animation was ok, and the motion was solid, so Best feature: Animation!

Aqlex responds:

I'm surprised that the best feature would be animation! I never felt like I was particularly good at that aspect of animating (does that even make sense?!). I do agree that some of the sound work was a little echoey. I have since upgraded some of my recording equipment and setup, but everything for this animation was recorded over a year ago, far before I upgraded everything. I also agree that some of the voice work was somewhat forced . I am glad you understand that I didn't want to go off the wall with the situations, since they were all supposed to be fairly true to the real event. Thanks for taking the time to write me a review!

You got some Talent there. I really enjoyed the credits, creative, fitting to the music. Not so much on the actual content.
Write a proper script and use your creativity, you can really make it to the top.

Additionaly, you might want to work on your intro. It is the thing that should represent you, make something nice, or don't do it at all.

Aqlex responds:

I'm glad you enjoyed the credits. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the actual content as much though, but I do plan on using actual scripts much more often in the future as opposed to these true stories. What exactly do you mean by my intro? Do you mean my logo thing at the very beginning? Do you believe I should change it? Anyway, thanks for the review =)
