it was a little short, confusing and dark but i love this game.
the controls were fluid, the storyline was deep and symbolic, i loved it.
a few issues: the name means dux ex machina in Greek, and is a big literary term. was that purposeful? and it was short. very short. the only mechanic was jumping, no moving platforms or springs or anything.
other than that, great game:D
I was first drawn in by the title of the game. God From the Machine (or as most people know it Deus Ex Machina) for those unaware is a term used in Greek theatre involving a literal god being lowered down from a crane and solving a problem for the characters in the play. The way most people think of it today is as a plot device which isn't too far off from the original interpretation as the literal gods were used mostly as said plot devices. The game, I thought, was going to use said trope in the narrative. Upon actually playing the game I was dead wrong, in a pleasing way. Pleasingly surprised if you will. The machine in question could possibly refer to society and how the rest of us are cogs in a giant machine. The robot represents the very meager amount of rebellion trying to stop said machine. The ending, if we are going along the same path, could be construed as a way of saying, "no matter what you do, the machine will just keep going because the primary objective of the machine is to continue existance." In other words, resistance is futile. Or am I just reading too far into this? Anyway, the story alone would get a 5 from me, it's just too bad the actual game play doesn't stack up as well, which is a shame because almost everything in the game from the piles of scrap lying around to the green "Gameboy" aesthetic does everything to enhance the story. It's just one fatal flaw that keeps the game from achieving what it could. The flaw in question being the controls, while jumping is very well done and jumping on walls is cool because the gravity let's me use just one wall to jump on allowing for alternate ways to get through levels, the real flaw is with moving. The robot controls akin to that of a soapy baby on a mopped linoleum floor, that is to say very slippery. This is extremely frustrating when it came to one section in the game where there were spikes on blocks and I knew that I had to be perfect in order to not die a million times. Other than that one major complaint I had the game was a very enjoyable, if a little somber experience. I look forward to seeing more from you.
good game but wall jump controlls were bad one time im in a wall in a level then ihave to jump but if i fall i die i kept pressing z+right arrow and same thing happens i fall of and i die. and it has a lack of mid-level check-points (ok lets try this level again *jumps on wall and presses z+right arrow but controlls lag as lwys and player falls and dies* FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC *punches computer on the screen*
