XD, i actually tried beating it, ive made it down to lvl 5 before i got bored XD.
I really enjoyed it, although the controls were a little difficult. Fun either way. Good game.
Its functional, but is definitely not ready to be a final release of anything. Besides being generic and boring, there are several real issues that need to be fixed. Firstly, the graphics, as you are aware, are dull MS:Paint blocks. Secondly, I'm not sure what your intention was for the wall jump mechanic, but its completely pointless in this game, as every level can be completed without utilizing it. Things need to be modified so that it either becomes necessarily, or remove the mechanic entirely, since it creates an issue by occasionally flinging you back when you just jump near a wall. Also, when changing the volume of the music, it needs to be kept for the remaining screens.
Im not a very skilled player and as such was incapable of passing even the simple level 2..
wall jumping you say... hmm yeah ive played others where that worked well for me.. this one didnt and as such i must confess ireversable grumpyness... music is not quite to my taste.
graphics wise its got some animations though they look very basic as if out of a zenith.
I did like the controls explaination however i prefer to use my arrow keys for most platformers... shooters on the other hand i like in wasd formation.. just my taste and id have still played more but getting stuck too long makes for a bad day.
Grappling had a control... but i didnt know how to use it if it fired or was unable to fire at that time.. suggest small click noise for when the grapple tries to fire but cant..
Run... seemed to work.
jump worked as did double jump.
Keep working on making games im sure you will make something great.
A good start but it does have a few problems I will address below.
Controls. A few problems with the controls. First why are the controls so.. awkward? W, has no other function why not just use it to jump? Second, the grapple command doesn't seem to do anything. Third, the run command doesn't seem to do anything. Fourth, some people (when not using the mouse) would prefer to play with the arrow keys, consider making that an option. Finally the ground pound. It works, but doesn't seem to serve a purpose.
Your interactions with the world. Also a couple of problems here. First, sticking to walls seems to serve no functional purpose other than that it makes it harder for you to get places. Only once was I able to actually gain height off of a wall, and I can only assume that was a glitch, because I couldn't replicate it and have no idea how it happened. Second, tunnels that are your height . You have to crouch to enter them, but can then stand up and move freely? This doesn't feel right in either case. You should either have to remain crouched, or not need to crouch at all. From the look in the game you should not need to crouch at all.
The music. Although the command for lowering the music volume does work it resets in each level. This is then brought to a conclusion in the final levels with nothing remaining but a rhythmic tic (is the best way i can describe it). You should make sure this carries over to the next level.
The game does work as a platformer, but didn't present much challenge and nothing really happens in it (no story). More than anything i felt it needed some work on the technical aspects of gameplay. Following that I would suggest some work on the challenge level, story, and length of the game. Those things make or break a game. The art could use to be improved, but is not as critical. Keep trying I'm sure you will get there. I think it is fair to give this 2/5 across the board.
