4 Stars.

The animation, music, and characters were perfect. It was all brilliantly done and brought together..but the message is obscure. I do not know it. Is this sometime in the future? I am not usually confused by the message of a movie such as this but it eludes me.

My best guess would be something along the lines of slavery.

An excellent, and very relevant look at the way modern culture runs; the rich tempt us all with their glitz and glamour, to make us continue chasing the carrot, and all of our efforts end up going to feed their lifestyles, while we never have a hope in hell of ever getting to their status. We hear about it once in a blue moon...and it's all we need to think we all have a valid chance of rising from the dirt and joining the ranks of the rich and celebrated. We never pay any mind to what we have in our own lives, we never realize that happiness is subjective, and that you don't need the glitz and glamour to have happiness...you just need to work on what you can, not give in to the machine, and not succumb to the allure of the bright lights.

The animation was top-notch, the art style was mind-poppingly beautiful and the dystopian "Black zone" environment pressed right against the ultra-bright "White zone" was a perfect clash of cultures; showing the wild differences between the extremely rich and the extremely poor and what happens when there is no middle ground. The voice acting was top-notch and truth be told some of the lines actually had me laugh, though it was always silenced pretty fast by the drama of what was happening. The security robots freaked me the fuck out...which is what I think was the intention, actually. The real nature of the lottery, when you discover it, sent a chill down my spine. I'm surprised most people don't seem to get the end. I get MOST of it, myself, but I admit...I am curious about the dream sequence thing that happens. WAS it a dream sequence? Or was it reality? Did he escape for a precious few minutes, and was able to see the truth of the world around him? Did the girl end up joining him in the same tank, so that they were actually together in the end?

Oh, one more brilliant allegory you put in, there; that the rich cannot live and cannot keep up their lifestyles without us, the poor, that ...sucking us all dry, as it were, is what keeps them going.

This was a stellar piece, and I have to thank you profoundly for sharing it. I haven't been compelled to write a review like this in years, but once the closing credits started playing I pretty much had to. This is going to my "staple-5" vote for the next 30 days; every day I will return and give it a 5-vote until I see it at the top of the Top 50.
