Nice game - the fact that it has brought me back to play for the third day in a row is a good sign!
A couple of points that I do find annoying, although they don't stop this from being a great game -
- Hit rates shown are only base rates. This means that I can see 91% chance to hit, and yet miss 5 times in a row. I can only assume that this is because I am not seeing actual hit rate.
- The fact that as of the third arena all your opponents get first hit, without depending on speed, is very frustrating. Up until that point it was worth spending large numbers of points of speed, but suddenly it becomes much, much less useful than defence, a stat that was not especially needed earlier. Given this sudden switch and that there is no way to change allocated points that I can see, this creates a very large step up in difficulty for no particular reason, creating more frustration that fun.
- Things aren't explained enough - what is the point of the school?
- Something that I think may be a bug - in Tarsus I can't get the "Win a combat without losing a gladiator" goal, even though I have beaten many battles without losing a gladiator.

jackgeist obviously is not a very good player so doesn't know what he is talking about. Not only does the opponent not go first "most of the time" but if you power yor defense up, you can withstand it.
I didn't think I would like this game, but it has kept my interest for 3 days now. There ARE some bugs, like when your opponent decides to attack your already dead partners for some reason, and it would be nice to have some instructions, like what is the purpose of the school, or some of the other strategies. But overall this is a good turn by turn game.
If the bugs were cleared up, and some more instructions, this would be a 5/5

Two issues that need attention. The first is when you mouse over the player you intend to "cure"...no matter how much damage they have taken the text box will say "hit:99%". The other issue cropped up when I tested the cheatability of the blacksmith. I spent one chunk of copper, received a shield (not a bad shield either), Closed the game window rather than hitting "ok", and then upon opening the game again found that I had lost the metal and did not receive the shield. PS.....more blood and gore is good too...say like...body parts remaining on the ground...lamentatious howling and screaming from the mortally wounded begging to be killed rather than be left to bleed to death...little stuff like that would make the game better.
