After a long time, here is my latest game. Enjoy!
For the most part i enjoyed it, but derrrr.... when you go to the game over screen... I thought that picture was a little disturbingly suggestive ^.^; ....... :P
is that kingdom hearts text i see?
Kingdom Hearts Font ;-)
@ClockWorkMonster Yeah yeah, you say that, but I agree with Master120, this is an unbearable violation of whatever rights tentacle beasts may have, plus he can't act like sending flower would be an absolute win with any intelligent, pacific creature. I mean, for all we know sending them alien stuff grown from the dirt up there is pretty much considered like wanting them to find a box of flaming, razor stuffed crap in their mailbox. That ghost is a jerk.
That being said, nice game :D I personnally love runner games, and mixing one with some shooter elements is a great idea. The art may be minimalistic, but pretty decent, and the gameplay is simple enough to prevent us from choking out of sheer rage when we get surrounded while blasting a boss away, WHILE jumping over stuff.
Now, much like most games of its genre, yours could use a little bit of variety, maybe with traps or collapsing platforms like in canabalt, or you could even implement some "hardcore" mode where the running is faster-paced.
This still is solid work as it is, loved it ! Keep it up :)
There is a hard mode, faster and with no powerups (only score ones).
More stuff wiull be added in the sequel.
I'll also add a message: "DISCLAIMER: No real tentacled monsters were harmed in the making of this game. Don't try to send flowers to ancient octopi creatures at home. Leave that to professionals"
My bad, thought the Hard Mode was just and endless one :p well that makes your game quite cooler :D
mmm... Endless mode could be interesting in a sequel. I'll think about that.
Visuals were really helpful to the game, as you knew exactly who you were and what you were doing as soon as the game started off. This game in it's normal mode is fun in it's own right, but the intensity and pressure that I would imagine from escaping Hell really came in play when I started playing through hard mode. Even at a fully boosted level 11 character, there was a challenge, and I really appreciated that. The controls were incredibly simple yet refined, and there's not really much improvement needed there for this kind of game.
A couple of improvements I think would benefit this game is a little more work on the enemies and the audio. The enemies, even though plentiful in hard mode, didn't pose much of an open threat to me, with the exception of the tentacles coming up from the ground. Even the boss didn't put me in much panic as I was easily able to deal with a large mob, wait for his body to appear, then mow him down in no time at all. Make bosses a threat, something that will make the player change up how he's gonna make his approach. Audio was a little subdued, with barely audible hit noises, explosions, and other sound effects. Music's loop got to a point where it was getting a little annoying, but that shouldn't pull you away from the fact that the game mechanics are very solid. Perhaps more menacing music can be played when a boss is on the trail?
I enjoyed the game, however, very good work!!
