For our final project in my computer art class, my instructor gave us a Flash animation to do. The goal was the incorporate a tarot card into the animation. I had this idea of a cute, little hermit crab bouncing around in my head for a while, so I chose to base my flash off the "Hermit" card. If you're familiar with tarot cards at all (I'm not, just did some basic research for this project), you'll be able to notice some of the similarities between this and the card.
This is also my first animation done by tablet. My school has a Mac lab full of 18- or so-inch Wacom tablets which have made this project both fun and ten times more efficient in terms of productivity. I'm gonna miss these things. :(
As always, enjoy. Although I spent a lot of time of it, his toon's a little short, due to deadlines and such.

EDIT: I'm aware the replay button doesn't work. It's because of an AS3 conflict that I'm both too inexperienced and downright lazy to deal with. Plus, it'll prolly be faster for you to right-click and hit play than me to open CS5.5 (after a series of approximately six or seven crashes) and fix the issue.

Well, it seems like this was a pretty nice cartoon for you to make. I just didn't like it how it was so short and not a lot happened. Of course, you don't need to have that for a good cartoon. I really know nothing about tarot cards, but I think it's interesting that this came by you from a school project. Some great stuff from this website has come from school projects. The animation is pretty good.

I just like how this has a good homey feeling. It doesn't try to be too flashy or elaborate or anything. It's just a short simple little cartoon about a crab trying to interact with his world. I found myself rooting for him a bit. The sound effects are pretty good. I like the omnious music too.

Hermit crabs are my most absolute favorite animal, so of course I'll give you a 5. Your design on this is also amazingly unique. If your teacher has any good taste he/she will give you an A+.

I once found a hermit crab in bermuda the island i brought it onto my cruise boat and when i left it outside in the balcony it died but crawled out of its shell, so weird. the body is so saggy but i feel sorry for my 7 hour pet that i named :(

Alpha-Nuva responds:

this film is dedicated to brian's hermit crab of whom he had brief ownership.

Pretty cool. The only thing that kind threw me off is the hermit's tapping sound. Other wise I thought it was a good attempt!!!
