Traitor puts you into the shoes of a soldier of the Augustan Hegemony, forced to rise up against your former masters after you're ordered to do something you simply cannot accept. Explore the Aventinus Complex, complete missions, upgrade your ship and gather allies until you can overthrow the tyrants who have brought such misery to the people.

[Note: If you're playing in Firefox and experience odd control problems, try switching to Chrome or Opera.]

[Current version: 1.7]

1. The game opens up after the 4th mission, when you reach the map.
2. Upgrades are available in shops on the map screen.
3. The menu allows you to see your stats, achievements and allies.
4. If a mission is too difficult, try playing a different one and upgrading your ship.
5. In some situations, survival is more important than destroying all enemy ships.

If your medals aren't unlocking, this is probably because the NG server is having some hiccups. Try reloading the page and see if the preloader ad is being displayed. Then go to the in-game Achievements screen; the game will try to unlock any medals you should already have.

Thoughtful but entertaining, fun to play and interesting to read and explore, beautiful to watch, many genius little touches that give it that extra something. Plus, it's accessible even to people who don't normally play shooters, not by being too easy, but by being entertaining and flexible enough for someone to pick their own pace. There's really not enough praise I can give it that hasn't been said before. The game is simply worth your time, even if this is a genre you'd normally ignore.

Noticing the results of actually shooting the med supply ships down in the beginning of the level made my day, just because devious little things like that are what makes the difference between just another game and a game someone cares about (and a world, a story someone cares about).

Great game, this is probably a first as far as the concept goes. Combining an RPG with an advanced pixelated graphic style along with a gameplay that reminisces asteroids. This is a very good game and you should continue to keep up the good work. Oh, and I played it on firefox and everything worked perfectly fine, so I don't know what its all about.

This is one of the best "old style" shooting I ever played, seriously. Amazing effects, very enjoyable with all that upgrades for the ship. Congratulations to the authors! To the rest: play it! =)

Wow... that is the best way to describe it, 3 hours of gameplay, an involved storyline, this is a shooter that can probably compete with starwish. The theme was nice, and I'm definitely rooting for a sequel. Though I must ask if you took Latin, I noticed a lot of references besides just quotes. Even the flag ships were named for something, but I don't really get the calligula one, which I guess you named for the emperor... but it actually means little feet. Great game, keep up the good work. 5/5

JonasKyratzes responds:

About Caligula: I figured it had been long enough that the nickname had become sort of official. Possibly the ship is actually called the Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, or perhaps just the Gaius, but since the nickname is more commonly known and less easily confused with other figures, people just call it the Caligula. (I thought about this a bit when I made the game, because I wanted a recognizable reference that still somehow made sense in this alternate history.)
