Flamingo1986 (Zachary Rich) presents "Present Prank", a short animation starring Pinkie Pie from the hit TV series, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".

Howdy Everypony! ^^

Here's my very first official animation to come out of my training here at the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). Being a fan of the new "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" series, I decided to create a puppet of Pinkie Pie (my favorite pony) in Flash and animate her in a little short.

This was originally created as a three-part assignment for my "2D Character I" class here at SCAD. The .FLA file for the puppet rig will be uploaded soon for those of you who would like to use the rig for your own pony animations. I'll also be uploading a tutorial on how to properly use it as well.

This took me 130 hours from start to finish (40 hours to build the puppet, 80 hours to animate it, and 10 hours for post-production editing).

DISCLAIMER: MLPFiM Original characters created by Lauren Faust and DHX Media - and owned by Hasbro Inc. This work is in no way designed to infringe upon the rights of Hasbro and DHX Media. It is, completely and utterly, a fan-based concept intended for free distribution for the promotion of My Little Pony.

Definitely one of the most show-accurate animations so far. Pinkie was very in-character, and the whole thing almost felt like it could have a place in the actual show. Very nice.

The animation is extremely fluid and top notch, the colours are gorgeous, and the story itself although simplistic, is very cute with a small yet pure sense of humor.

This is a wonderful little animation you've got here! Everything moves quite fluidly and vivdly, and the designs and rigs look almost exactly like the ones used in the official show. It really does help a lot in making the characters come to life, and helps this excel in the animation department more than a good chunk of the animations on NG.

The main thing I don't like here is the story: not much seems to happen here, in my opinion. Despite this being an animation assignment like you said, perhaps next time you could consider making something a little more "meaty" story-wise, if you catch my drift. It would help a lot with helping this animation stand on something else besides the animation.

Other than that, I've got no complaints. Can't wait to see what else you cook up, MLP or non-MLP!

Flamingo1986 responds:

You hit that one right on the nose (or snout?). This animation was originally designed to be just a puppet experiment. However, towards the latter half of animating it I decided to add a little extra and "spiff" it up with a story. As a result the story suffered while the animation remained top-notch.

I've decided to rectify this with my next pony animation that I'm currently working on. From the ground up it's been treated as a story first, an animation second. It's slated to be released in six parts sometime towards the end of this year.

That was so totally cute and awesome! On the short side, very, but it's very well animated! ^o^

This is still one of my favorite fan animations of MLPFiM. You are pretty much set to go into the animation industry.
Also looking forward to your next animation project! Good thing Habsro gave you the go ahead. :D
