dys4ia is an autobiographical game about the period in my life when i started hormone replacement therapy.
This is absolutely wonderful
Very interesting! And clever game design. Focusing on the many small annoyances and problems allowed me to empathize with your situation, despite the fact that I still can't imagine how it must feel to be born in the "wrong" body. Still the concept is less "alien" and "weird" than before playing (and thinking) about it.
I also don't want to critisize the simple gameplay. It didn't provide challenge or fun as much as it kept me in the flow and helped my usually erratic attention to stay focused on the topic. A job well done.
All in all a great example of how games (as a media) can provide more meaningful/deep experiences than the usual flash-game even aims for.
Wholly enlightening. Not so much a game, as a tour of your travails.
A learning experience to be sure. Full marks.
I'm very disappointed with the other reviewers that are rating this based on their view of what a game is, when it's just the way Newgrounds categorizes content. They won't have a section called "interactive movies" or "experiences" because it would become confusing and difficult to categorize. I wish people would review and rate games if it was successful in doing what the creator set out to do, not what they feel it should or shouldn't be. That said, I really thought the way you conveyed your experiences through fragmented mini-games was a fantastic way to have the game itself tell the story and it allows the player to really connect with it, especially because it isn't something everybody goes through. The use of symbols (like the shield) really helps break down that barrier even more so. It was wonderfully abstract and understandable at the same time. Although the art style was rather cliched, the way you used colors really worked well. You told your story and you did it in a very unique and interesting way. Just, good job.
It was definitely a weird game to play, but it's nice that you can express yourself. Good luck ma'am
