dys4ia is no longer available on newgrounds. it can be downloaded at:
dys4ia is an autobiographical game about the period in my life when i started hormone replacement therapy.
I applaud you for the concept. It's refreshing to have something different like this on newgrounds
I had a few problems with this:
I'm not very enthusiastic about how you blatantly ignored your doctor's advice and just ordered the medicine anyway. You know, they go to school for a long time to learn how to manipulate your body chemistry without killing you. That was dumb. Fix your blood pressure.
I think some of those "hoops" can be there for the patient's benefit, too. I don't want to sound like a condescending jerk, you lived it, I didn't, but this is a very big decision, and I think it's good that they put pressure on people thinking about these types of treatments; you know how difficult they can be, and it's not something you just want to jump into. Though I guess if you're going in to get the treatment you've been thinking about it for a while... I hope so at least. I think they are within their rights to know you're committed, and to jerk you around a bit to make sure. I don't think what they think should bother you much if you know you want to do it anyway. I don't think what anyone thinks should matter if you know what you want.
I also don't think insurance should cover this. >< sorry if you're broke, I know the feeling, but this is something you are choosing to do to yourself, something that is not vital, or even (if you wanna get technical) good for your physical health. It's not natural, and I'm not saying that because I'm a bigot, though I hear it out of them often. I just mean it doesn't happen very easily, and I think there are other, more pressing things they need our(policy-holder's) money for. Like corporate greed, or children mauled by car accidents.
A tattoo is an augmentation of the body that isn't natural, that people still want and go through a lot of pain to get. They can be a big part of who someone is, and be very emotionally important, though , and if you go to the wrong place, they can be a major health hazard as well. Insurance doesn't pay for tattoos. It's kind of messed up for me to compare a tattoo to being born the wrong sex, and I realize unless you are a bratty teenager not-having a tattoo will not cause you extreme emotional anguish, but... well... them's the breaks. We live in a cruel, unpleasant, wonderful world.
I've seen a couple of reviews calling this whiny, and, having faced my own adversities, I kind of agree. I do see a tendency to demonize those guys that gave you trouble. What other people think usually shouldn't matter to you, but I think the ability to understand where they are coming from is important. That probably doesn't sound very fair, because I'm sure there have been plenty of people who didn't try to appreciate your point of view, but since your behavior deviates from the norm, you have a little more work to do. Sorry.
You did what you wanted to do, regardless of a lot of negative feedback. I respect that. I think people should ultimately be left to their own devices. I don't necessarily agree with what you did, or the way you did it, but the fact that you endured it is something. Whether people think you're whiny or not, perception is reality, and it still feels like you had a rough time. I'm sorry for all the pain you went through.
OH! Yeah! That wasn't really a review... but that wasn't really a game either... I would have rated you higher if it was. The game play didn't really effect anything, the story was linear, and some of the mini games could either be failed or ignored completely, and the game would still progress.
it was a bizzare game but has a good story and the music was petty good.
lol, man. don't agree with the sentiment but everyone, that SHOULDN'T MATTER FOR REVIEWING
i like these interactive stories, but as your actions are so minute to the experience its not so much a game, it'd be great if NG had a more obvious category for these new interesting experimental story/gameplay mixes, as its really effective at engaging people. but yeah, good storytelling.
tan bueno no esta
