dys4ia is an autobiographical game about the period in my life when i started hormone replacement therapy. it's a story about me, and is certainly not meant to represent the experience of every trans person.

I'm not sure whether or not I'm epileptic, that was the only thing I didn't like. You kept things simple, easy, and to the point. I like it.

Love me some art games. We don't get enough submissions that properly use game mechanics as a form of story telling that allow for the user to understand concepts in ways they couldn't as easily in other mediums. 5/5 to counter balance all the idiots who think that something needs a level up system or other generic Skinner box techniques to be a game.

The piece isn't without flaws, but they are few and don't really take away from the overall experience. I feel like the art could be slightly higher resolution, the atari feel seems like it's stretching the concept a bit.

First of all, this doesn't need to be a game to be judged.
This was a testimony of life and must be respected.
You have taken a decision, accepted the consequences and faced the trials.
Now, enjoy the triumph, 'cause you deserve it.

However, the 5th missing star is because you are, somehow, reccomending this type of teraphy.
Try to not do that. Hormone replacement therapy is not for everyone.
In some cases, one must obey nature. In your case, however, let me congrat you for fighting.

I cannot rate this as a game. Going by the criteria which I judge other games, this simply cannot be applied. I personally find it baffling that this got daily feature for a game. If anything, this is closer to an interactive story than an actual game.

Reasons it is not a game:
1. No goal
2. No opposition/conflict
3. No choices. You either directly do the action or don't do it. There is no process which leads to something being done. Essentially, your choice is play the game to completion or don't, which is not choice enough to consider this a game.

Going by standards for say, an animation, I would rate this higher, probably about a 2 for sub-par humor, on-par music, mediocre storytelling, and unimpressive graphics.

This easily could have been a very entertaining game if you had applied more creativity and effort to it. Take for example another game on Newgrounds, "Don't Catch the Herp" submitted by Ir0nh0rse. Though based on a real event, the author depicted it in an exaggerated and creative way which provided for a game that was fun to play and even was pretty decently animated. Simply because it's a real experience doesn't mean it has to be completely real. People don't play games so they can hear about other people's lives, they play games because they want to feel like what they are doing is THEIR life. You have no hook, no incentive within the actual game itself for the player to play. Because the player isn't *experiencing* anything, you are simply *telling* the player what is happening. You want to try and get the player to feel like this is happening to them. Part of the problem here is that they have no real permanent or definitive avatar they can connect to, so they have no extension of themselves that they can connect any of the events to.

I hope this review helps you in your future games.
