EDIT: Am I seeing things? FRONT PAGE?! And an award for daily 2nd place?! A big thank you to whoever was behind making this decision! I honestly did not expect this to do so well here on NG, simply because I know there's a good few people that don't like MLP here. Needless to say, I'm shocked and yet honored to have this honor. Thank you!

After about four months of planning, writing, animating and procrastinating (mostly the last one of course, lol), here is the big My Little Pony project I've been working on, which is an animated rendition of the comic on ask-twilightsparkle.tumbl dubbed "True Friendship." Clocking in at almost five minutes (counting the credits), this is my longest animated project yet and also one of my most ambitious.

Rather than do something focused on humor or fast-paced action like most of my recent works, I wanted to make something with a story and do my best to tell it as powerfully as I could throughout the animation. Most of the dream sequence you see here was not in the comic, and was concocted by me and with a little help from the creator of the original comic.

I could go on with how I think some things in it could have turned out much better, such as when full-grown Spike is flying and some of the expressions being a little too funny for this moody animation, but I think I'll keep my mouth shut and let you watch this animation for yourself. I will say though, I'm very happy with how this turned out, especially on the writing and timing front.

I do hope you enjoy the animation! Please let me know what you think of it; I'm all ears!

Piggybank12 responds:

Judging by how people have been responding to this animation so far, I'd say in this case it almost doesn't matter that it features ponies. Rather, you could even say they seem to act almost like a springboard for the material and story. From what I've found, you don't need to know pretty much anything about the show to understand the story, and the lessons to learn from it. Yet, you can't just take any two characters with a bond and slap them into this story; you've got to take crafting the story suitably into consideration.

And yeah, I'm secretly waiting for the day this MLP thing wears out too (which I guess isn't a secret anymore, oh well), or at least when I can start to break away from the community and work on something different. I think ponies are great and all, but with how recent events have been handled in the community and how it all seems to be thrown in my face every day, I'm starting to be fed up with this whole craze and fan base myself.

Thank you as well for leaving a review, it means the world to me.

Now that was quite emotional.
Athough, I think the animation could've improved.

This was actually pretty darn good. I am pretty sure it would almost made a 25 year old guy cry....somewhere.

The title is spot on friendship is indeed how it is portrayed here. So thumbs up on that. The drawings were cute and somewhat like a good photo capturing the emotion perfectly. The purple pony however seemed fatter than usual. Not that it matters though, just pointing out.

Voices were done good, captured the feeling well but did have to get adjusted to it, always problem when you used to different voice.

Even though you portrayed the whole deal nicely and I could relate to it well, the whole thing doesnt exactly seem animation heavy. Not that it's bad as it would be distracting to the atmosphere if too much was going on, but if I have to complain about something it would be the ammount of frames of each movement. Because it seemed like a constant 3 frames on every movement with the same timing but I only got slightly distracted by this after a second look.
