About a year ago a friend and I began to work on the pilot episode of a series about a fox and a barn owl, fighting for balance in a world where humans are long gone. Inexperienced as we were, we went for a project in which I would do art, frame by frame animations, script and storyboard, and where she would work on sound effects and soundtrack. Time ended up being against us with school and all, and I ended up having to compromise with the soundtracks and finding sound effects myself. I am however grateful for not having to carry this project all the way alone, because without the motivation from the people around me, I, a 15 (now 16) year old girl, would never have been able to work for a whole year on the same project.
A great thanks goes out to the talented voice actors who assisted me with this project, as well as the 48 people who auditioned. I am sorry to have made everyone wait for so long.

Anyways, I hope you'll be able to enjoy these 6 minutes of pilot, even with all the faults it may have. It may not seem like much to the trained eye, but I broke down a lot of barriers working on this.

Sorry for the large filesize. You can also watch the flash here:

Very easy to offend human race once again...
But just think: freindship, love, compassion, selflessness, justice, mercy - these are all HUMANS' inventions. It is very easy to just discard our species, because of all the things we've made wrong and almost every thinking teenager does it. But hence you are a thinking teenager, just think - what would be left without us? Who, in your opinion, would pass all the values our culture gained throught ages? Animals? No. Those all values would be gone. And without human race ever coming to existance - non existant. We created everything you love. We created the world of principles that are so great, that almost everyone desires them to be present in their life.
Then why did we fail? The answer is simple: we gained the power to change the world, BUT we are still too ANIMALISTIC to use it. Instincts, the main cause of egocentrism and thoughtlessness, are the ones which combined with almost godlike powers - are responsible for this sad condition of our planet. Not lack of emotions - but emotions, especially those weakend we don't even know we have. They still influence our behavior - and they influence our greed, our cravings for power, resources, etc., etc. Emotions in their basic aspects are EGOCENTRIC. And that what happened with us and our planet is caused by LACK of cultural development, not too developed culture. TOO MANY uncontrolable acts drvien by emotions and TOO LESS actions driven by thinking and values.
I give this film 4, because it has a very good animation, nice voices and still it was made by 15-16 year old girl - that is just 'wow'! I don't like the message though - and I think the massage was the main reason you made this movie. Keep it up! Both in movie-making and in thinking, espceially when mature life hits you with all its power.

You were not joking about file size! That took forever to load! First things first though, the animation style, I loved it! Very artsy, and I love the pastel colors! Second, the audio, not bad, nothing too special but on the whole very accurately done, any errors will fix themselves with repetition and...oohhhhhh mmyyyy....is the cat suppose to be George Takei? I won't lie though, I would not say no to seeing more of this, in fact I say a rather loud and obnoxious yes!

It's an interesting story told from an interesting POV. The well rehearsed philosophy that we will eventually bring our own destruction upon us, is a nice and quick way of painting a background story.

I do however have a few issues with the characters becoming flat at times. You need to characterize them a bit further as your story evolves around story drive. None of the characters in this film stood on their own so you have to work on that.

Technically the artistic style is nice and lively with vibrant colours and the needed depth. You can however work some more on the animation of your characters and make them more fluid and integrated. It did feel a bit like pieces of cardboard cutouts moved on a background.

The sound needs some working too and tweaking in the channels. The forest needs to come out further and you need a broader sound picture to make the world come alive. Could also drop the music down a few notches to work a bit on sub level instead of up front.

I like this and it's a nice start to hopefully a good story. Keep working on your skills and story telling and I'm sure you'll make a splendid series :)

Not bad, I think you could improve it a lot with some small changes.

-Run cycles will go faster with fewer frames. When the fox is running away from the owl, remove half of the frames in the cycle and it'll look like he's going faster.
-Try bending the legs more when you're doing run cycles in profile. Don't be afraid to put some squash and stretch in there too, I know that a lot of squash and stretch can make things look cartoony, but without enough things will look a bit stiff.
-There might be a little too much dead space in there, try to remove some frames here and there to tighten it up on the whole! You'd be surprised, tighter timing can make a huge difference with the energy level on the whole.

Also... did that fox learn English from watching anime dubs? Hahaha sorry, it's just something about the inflection, feels like it has been localized!
