THIS GAME IS HARD!
You have been warned.
Game Jam 6
Arrows move, Down ducks/slides/makes you fall fast, up jumps.
Hip hip ho..ray?
For starters it's VERY unique and original, and it's very nice as well.
However what's frustrating is how fast the character moves to how long you press the movement key for. I understand it's suppose to be difficult and such, but the control feels a bit funky and off. For example, sometimes I find myself hitting objects that I haven't intended to hit, even after pressing controls to stop moving towards it. The game is alright. I will give it that.
You can press the opposite direction to stop.
Mind numbingly addictive and frustrating
Congratulations. Very few games have the power to make me want to smash my laptop against the wall in frustration.
This is one of them.
I could make a waaaay harder game.
The game is difficult, yes, but frustratingly so.
It's a relatively good platformer, but there is no reason for the player to want to continue. No story line, no payoffs, no nothing, just a string of levels that are frustratingly difficult. I found myself asking why I was playing this game, something which I don't often experience. It was honestly just annoying and pointless. I don't mean to bash it or your talent as a creator, I just felt that there was a lot more that could have been added to it.
This game does make sense
However, the only thing that didn't make sense was the death-respawn delay. If you're going to make a game that is difficult and has counterintuitive (or at least counter-most-other-games) physics, then the player is going to die often.
Combine this with an unecessary delay whenever you die, and the result is what I feel this is a pretty heavy design flaw. Dying entails sitting through the long, annoying scream and a couple seconds of delay. Contrast this with hard platformers like Super Meat Boy, etc. that feature nearly instantaneous respawning.
When a difficult game respawns you instantly, it is an invitation to get back into the action - your character is ripe and ready again, and you start playing again before you get second thoughts about saying "screw this." Contrast here - almost every death makes you wait. And in waiting, you can ask that question - do I feel like doing this?
I'll make respawns faster.
