Loved DD? Want more levels? Check out Dangerous Christmas!

Disclaimer: If things get too rough, turn on the checkpoints from the main menu. Be careful though because you will not earn achievements while you are using them.

Dangerous Dungeons tells us a story about Timmy, a little thief- err, treasure hunter, who has arrived to a deep and dark dungeon, ready to face the dangers inside to claim the biggest treasure in the world. DD Has been made to look and play like old classic platformers, so it can be quite challenging, so watch out! Awesome music by KungFuFurby!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Use arrow keys to move and Z to jump. (can be changed from main menu)
Activate Switches and pick up keys by simply touching them.
Press R to restart a stage.
Press P to pause the game.
Press Esc to return to the main menu.

Doors in the stage selection open when you reach their corresponding stage the first time in either normal gameplay or Time Attack. The game will save between stages, so you can always continue your adventure later without losing progress!

Time Attack Mode:
If you choose Time Attack from the main menu, the game skips the intro and all cutscenes, and the game begins right away from the Stage 1. In this mode, two counters appear in the top right corner, other counts how long it took you to beat the game, other counts your total deaths. The final scores will be saved on scoreboards at the end of the game. Returning to main menu or entering secret stage the normal way will terminate your time so be careful!

Secret Stages:
The game has three hidden levels that are required to be beaten for you to reach the definitely final stage. You will receive hints how to find them after you beat Stage 30. These stages are not entered from doors, but by exiting the screen from the right area.

The game has won the Summer Game Jam 2011 contest!

Oh yeah !

Another run'n'jump "retro-like" game so freakin' hard, to have better reflexes and to just have fun ! I really love the game but I can't beat the 1st boss XD (yeah, I such a n00b ...) ,the music and the main caracter wich is one of the most pathetics thie... *ahem* treasure hunter ! (scuse me !)

Conclusion : this game is really hard but I like it !

Glad you liked it! Just try to stay on move and I am sure you can tackle the boss! just remember that the character can make some very tall jumps, so he doesn't need to use every platform you see in the beginning of the boss, some of them are there to fool you.

Tight

So, it seems like half the people love it for its difficulty, and the other half hate it for that same reason. I'm one of the former. It's so satisfying when you reach the top of the pit on the final boss. The controls were close to perfect as well. I'm curious as to how you plan on applying all the feedback to your next game. Congrats on winning the contest.

Oddly, it looks like I lost my medal for beating the third boss even though I still have the medal for finishing the 4th.

AdventureIslands responds:

Yeah the game is pretty good at splitting people's opinions. I've definitely learned a lot about what people actually like. I'll see if I can add multiple difficulty levels and checkpoints for the sequel. Glad you enjoyed the game.

Weird, I see you have all the normal gameplay Medals except the secret fire stage one. It was unlocked during the gameplay right? I wonder where it has disappeared to, unlocked medals shouldn't go anywhere unless there is something wrong in the medal system? Is the medal unlocked on the list under the game?

Perfect wonderful game.

This game just has the PERFECT difficulty, it reminds me of some of the "ROM hacks" people made for mario. Some were just perfect all together. Not only did you get the difficulty right tho, you also got the perfect music, sounds, and graphics! The storyline is also good to, there is a bit of storyline, but not to much to distract from gameplay! I wish to see alot more games from you in the feature, and if you make this game a series, I would recommend adding more levels and secrets!

AdventureIslands responds:

The game was originally supposed to have more dungeons and secrets, but I started to have technical problems with Stencyl and felt like I want to start making a new game soon, so I figured I save the ideas I had for a sequel.

Thank you and I am glad you enjoyed the game!

The Challenge makes it not fun

This game has nice graphics and sounds. Play control is okay but there is one major problem, the Difficulty. Dangerous Dungeons is very challenging for no reason. Why did you make this game so hard? Most players do not like hard games.

I want to like this game, but the challenge ruins the fun. I made it through the first nine levels, only to find the Boss. A giant bowling ball that chases you while you jump around and watch out for spikes. This boss requires split second accuracy and almost no margin for error.

Please lower the challenge is your next game. If you wish to make a hard mode, have it after you defeat the main guy. It could be a nice bonus for players that enjoy super stressful situations.

It seems that many of the reviews involve the Difficulty. I do not think that they can all be incorrect. I hope my constructive criticism helps you.

AdventureIslands responds:

The whole purpose of the game is to offer challenging old school gameplay, there are just as many people who love the difficulty as there are haters. What people find fun is relative and I am sorry that this wasn't your cup of tea.
