Loved DD? Want more levels? Check out Dangerous Christmas!

Disclaimer: If things get too rough, turn on the checkpoints from the main menu. Be careful though because you will not earn achievements while you are using them.

Dangerous Dungeons tells us a story about Timmy, a little thief- err, treasure hunter, who has arrived to a deep and dark dungeon, ready to face the dangers inside to claim the biggest treasure in the world. DD Has been made to look and play like old classic platformers, so it can be quite challenging, so watch out! Awesome music by KungFuFurby!

Use arrow keys to move and Z to jump. (can be changed from main menu)
Activate Switches and pick up keys by simply touching them.
Press R to restart a stage.
Press P to pause the game.
Press Esc to return to the main menu.

Doors in the stage selection open when you reach their corresponding stage the first time in either normal gameplay or Time Attack. The game will save between stages, so you can always continue your adventure later without losing progress!

Time Attack Mode:
If you choose Time Attack from the main menu, the game skips the intro and all cutscenes, and the game begins right away from the Stage 1. In this mode, two counters appear in the top right corner, other counts how long it took you to beat the game, other counts your total deaths. The final scores will be saved on scoreboards at the end of the game. Returning to main menu or entering secret stage the normal way will terminate your time so be careful!

Secret Stages:
The game has three hidden levels that are required to be beaten for you to reach the definitely final stage. You will receive hints how to find them after you beat Stage 30. These stages are not entered from doors, but by exiting the screen from the right area.

The game has won the Summer Game Jam 2011 contest! ex.php/topic,1968.0.html

Everything about this game just keeps reminding me of the days that I played on the Super Nintendo, with its graphic design to its music. It also keeps reminding me of the "legend of Zelda" series as well, how the hero is mostly covered in green, the fact that he to also explores dungeons, and to top it off the that one of the bosses is a giant disturbing sphere that is coming towards you; just like the moon in Majora's Mask.

AdventureIslands responds:

The music actually is genuine SNES music, composed by KungFuFurby.

I choose the main character to wear green clothes because it was a good color that would make him easier to spot from the otherwise dark tiles and background and wouldn't be too eye catching to bother the player.

Why everybody here do big reviews?

AdventureIslands responds:

I personally prefer to have long and detailed statements what people liked and what people didn't like in the game.

Has potential

But the difficulty level is just WAAAAAAAAAY up there. As in, pixel-perfect-stupid levels of difficulty.

Some checkpoints would be nice. Even the old Super Mario Bros. had checkpoints on its toughest levels.

AdventureIslands responds:

The next update is going to include Checkpoints, they can be turned on from the main menu and they will appear on the longest and hardest stages, but you don't earn medals from secret stages or bosses if you are using them.

Some good ideas

The strongest part of this is probably the graphics. Everything seems to be in high order and it's nice to see so many Stencyl works. What's also cool is how you get a lot of mobility to go around and do whatever you want. Congradulations on winning the Summer Game Jam 2011 contest! What is annoying, however, is the level with all of those spears. It just seems like even the slightest touch will end your life.

Everything is still detailed well, but keep in mind that this is a game that requires patience. It's good that everything is in such an organized manner. The music isn't that memorable, but it's alright. I wish there were some enemies that I could actively defeat by jumping on their heads or something. You've certainly created an interesting world.

AdventureIslands responds:

The game was originally supposed to have enemies and ability to throw knifes to hurt them and to activate switches, but I was still learning how to use Stencyl and I scrapped most of the ideas I had in my mind. I intend to bring lots if not all of the unused ideas I had for the sequel, including the knife throwing, climbing and, surprise: swimming!

I'm glad people like my graphics, they are my first art for an actual game and I am proud of them. I intend to make the sequel even better looking.

aaarggghhh!!! game

this is what games were when i was kid
and it delivers the same amount of frustration as
games used to do

these days we have stunning visual games
but poor learning curve
just play the new FF and you know exactly what i mean

this game just makes me so frustrated at parts but when you can clear a stage its awsome

in new games you clear stages easily so ofcourse its not that much of an accomplishmen

but i cannot really tell if it is a bad thing that new games do not make me want to tear my head to 2 different parts...

anyways...this game is awsome
thank you for this o mighty jussi simpanen... are finnish too?
