11/8/11 Still working on the medals guys, hang in there. Also tried some more optimizing to fix the slippery/sticky controls issue some of you have. (also, if you have a FB tab up, try closing that)

**CONTROLS** LEFT/RIGHT walk left/right UP = Jump DOWN = Raise shield (while standing)/Use Weapon(later in game,while standing)

Oyeatia, creator and god of man surrenders his deity, descending to the green earth in search of a lost love. Gyossait sleeps in the warm black heart of the dying planet, her dreams seep into the weakening minds of man. The end begins.

Update History:

11/5/11 Patched vanishing keys, walking off map, alternative ending, Medals implemented but pending.

Didn't deserve front page at all. The controls suck, the jump is really annoying and sometimes gets stuck, the "music" is lackluster, the font is hard to read, and the only creepiness is based on ineffective jump scares. Also, the whole "retro graphics" idea failed

Relies too heavily on a lackluster narrative.

Interesting presentation, but it relies too heavily on "shock" scares and subliminal flashes, which basically just comes off as "trying too hard" to be scary without actually creating a sense of suspense. More often I found the game's presentation and narrative came across as pretentiously arcane. There's very poor conveyance in many places and the game does a poor job of communicating what is dangerous and what is just set dressing. Also the exploration element is severely lacking; partially due to the aforementioned lack of ability to identify threats, but also due to the very linear level design, which includes an assortment of invisible walls that basically just punished me for trying to explore the environment. Also hindering the experience were the controls, which felt very sluggish and sticky most of the time and when it didn't it felt too slippery; the only real difficulty encountered in the game is wrestling with the unresponsive controls.

The persistence of the player's dead bodies was a nice touch, but nothing else really stood out to me as an excellent feature.

I'm sure the narrative is just something you feel you need to get off your chest, but really what brings down the experience is the gummy controls and the linear, somewhat dull, level design.

...does not mean poor gameplay.
The controlled character can jump too high. As pointed out by other, the ability to shield while in mid-air would be a needed addition.
It is not only the screams and the bloody look that makes a game. Period.

Bad controls, look, I don't like it

The sounds are fine. Every other thing has it's flaws in this game!
- It's graphics is too pixelated to be scary. You managed to bring out probably as much as possible from this quality setting, but it's still an ultra-low resolution mess, wich is not really good for this kind of game (nor any kind of game actually)! Take a look at The Breach, thats how a horror platformer should look like!
- The movement also has it's problems, it's very hard to control the jumps, the character jumps sky-high if I don't release the key immediately after pressing it.
- There are no instructions, I had to guess how to move - fortuanately it's not complicated, but it surely wouldn't have been much an effort to write something useful too along with all those nonsense messeges!
- It's a long game and there is no save! There are ingame checkpoints, but if you quit, you'll have to start over!
- The story is totally unclear. Other than the authors comments nothing really tells you in the game who are you, where are you and what are you doing, who are the friendly npcs and who are the enemies.
- There is a very annoying flaw in the gameply too: when you die you lose your gun, and those zombie hands (or whatever) that chop your haed and give you the gun aren't returning when you die. But there are some places where it's very hard - if not impossible - to pass unarmed, however there are lots of traps that kill you easily and you lose your weapon. So you die becouse it's hard, and becouse you died the less hard way is declined to you!

Pixel art was nice. Music was...I guess there. Not very scary, the jump scares were there but nothing that really stuck out. Deaths would take you way to far back and with such a fragile char/plenty of unknown traps that gets annoying quick. Not worth the top spot of the front page. Front page? Maybe but not the top spot. Probably would have been better if death just pushed you back a bit.
