Chased By Monsters! was first made in November 2010 for the first Game Prototype Challenge, #GPCv1. http://www.gameprototypec hallenge.com

The concept is simple: collect all three monster-repellent spray bottles before the nightmares catch up to you, then make your way to the exit, symbolized by an arrow, for each level.

I have since added to the game a few times, include music, more levels, and most recently some bug-fixes and a pre-loader so that I can put it up here and elsewhere, and finally allow people to play the game.

I hope you enjoy it!

fun, nice design, good idea,

STICKY CONTROLS

JasonPKaplan responds:

I can't disagree, but all I can say is: hah, you should have seen it when it was first made. There was this weird thing with landing from a jump, so you couldn't jump again for an entire two seconds. It made the game much more challenging (though still possible, I made sure)... but not in the good way. I fixed _that_, but left the controls the same as otherwise because I wasn't sure how it would affect the level design to change them too much. I've since got better at platformer controls, but this relic is a snapshot of my skills last year, which were relatively novice and still growing. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. :)

Nice work!

I like it.

- Clever idea
- Not one of those "Easy" game - this was actually challenging
- Fun!
- Like the small details - Background, darkness, ect
- Level selector
- Simplicity

But what I didn't like so much was

- I'm confused about the squirt bottle?
- I think the mosters should change every level.
- More/Cool collectables
- It's missing something.

But again, nice work!

Ooh. Yeah, changing the collectibles and monsters every level would have been much more interesting, agreed. It didn't get any treatment like that because it was a jam game, but that's a good lesson for the next game; thanks! It does, unfortunately, mean more art, and I'm really not much of an artist... :P

The squirt bottles are pretty random, agreed. It doesn't really matter what they are to the gameplay, though. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting.
