Dark, twisted & bizarre! It's fantastic!

I can't get enough of this game! Despite being a demo, I simply return and play through just to see what twisted monsters and obscure items I will come across in the deranged dungeon, and seeing the protagonist change physically when picking up some items is a blood red cherry on top of the cream. Love the idea that he shoots tears at his foes, it is as if he cried for them (well, here it is at them). I think I'm simply taken by the whole idea of the game and all the details in it! Perhaps it is the combination of good old The Legend of Zelda and Your style, dark humor and creative ideas.

The story is creepy and a brilliant play on the biblical story of Isaac! Poor child, he must face the challenges in the abyss, by weeping at his deranged brothers and sisters (if that's what they are) and overcoming his fears and sins. I wonder if its all just a fantasy in his head? Who knows, but the game is simply brilliant and fun and that's the important thing; it is fun!

I must say that the music is absolutely perfect for this game! I love the melancholic track that plays whenever I visit the shop! Thumbs up for the music! The sound effects fits well, and I noticed the sobbing from the deformed fly-infested poor souls, and it just adds to the atmosphere of this morbid rogue game, and I pitied these creatures while sending them to their eternal rest. The narrator is in a class for himself by the way, that's some really good voice acting!

Regarding the programming, well, I can't say much about it really but the game seems to flow well while playing aside from some lagging due to the inept performance of my old computer, no bugs from what I could find through playing the demo. Although, when I find a secret room and have entered and exited the secret room, the opened passage disappears and it seems to be necessary to bomb it open again, though I haven't tried to see if the passage opens up again (due to lack of bombs). Speaking of secret rooms, that devil room, it actually feels a bit evil and the power-ups seems really worth the trade-off. Loved the cat power-up! There is one room I never could get inside, the barred one with the sword symbol.

All the characters, elements and items seems to be just perfectly designed, and I really like the idea that You used tarot cards, pills and his mom's stuff!

I noticed the use of memes in this game, a part of me thought of it as a slightly non-creative approach yet that it was a creative use of them at the same time, and a part of me would've preferred that You'd done something more original but then again I really don't mind it either (but I think You overused one particular meme). Unless the game is a some kind of successful trolling on people... ha! Approved.

I noticed that when the character died and sometimes the depiction of what killed him doesn't correspond correctly in the death screen, he died once from an eyeball from that slug boss that... oozes a lot of yellow fluid and it said a giant fly killed him, not the eyeball. Nothing that affects the game but the impression.

Playing two levels isn't enough for me to give a just score or review of the game however but I certainly liked what I experienced and I want more of it and the game is a strong 9 or a weak 10, but this is just a demo that You've uploaded here and that I've played that I'm reviewing so I can't give it a perfect score, as the experience is sadly limited. However, Edmund, You are one hell of a game designer and artist! You know that! You've got me hooked on this game, and I'm going to buy the game and the soundtrack on Steam whenever I have the time for it!

Simply put I love the concept, the art, the style, the music, the dark and wicked details. Definitely worth playing if You like dark and twisted top down rogue games (and Zelda)! Every play-through adventure gives the player a small crazy story in itself through the randomly chosen power-ups and monster encounters and the vast portfolio of random items and monsters to collect and encounter enhances the game's longevity and replayability. Awesome game!

Problem, Bible?

I don't really know what to say besides WOW. When I saw this on the homepage and it's from the creators of SMB I knew without doubt that I'm buying this.
It's atmosphere is just so dark and evil, it creeps me out more than any game I ever played. I'm glad it's not one of those regular RPGs where you upgrade and all, this is a very unique game.

Can't get to the end though... lol...
