never played a better game only Oblivion was better so fun in run and gun but you need to be skilled in survival...
Grande and fun, but difficult to play.
While I've eagerly awaited Last Stand's third installation, and was STUNNED by the massive shift from pseudo-stationary defense game to a game that actively SHOWS the searching, travelling, and resource-collective survival, I have but one issue with this game: THE LAG. I'll discuss it further down, but I'll throw this out there just to say it. Were it not for that problem, I'd give this a 10 out of 10. Why? BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING AWESOME, otherwise. ***SPOILERS AHOY***
~Expansive Map - Easy to traverse, consistent, and fun to explore! It's large enough without being too big, and believe it or not? I LIKED going back to easier areas just to hand easy zombies their balls with my SAW or XM8.
~Realistic Gun Behaviors - I noticed from the first shot that unsilenced guns not only drew the attention of on-screen zombies, but summoned them from OFF-screen, and even potentially created a horde! Remember: guns in zombie survival travelling are LAST RESORT for this very reason! Use restraint! At random, or provoked by noise (guns and running), you can get ambushed by a horde of undead; it's only predictable to the point that it readies you, instead of annoying you.
~Gameplay - The controls are simple, quick to be learned, and comfortable given the average QWERTY-board. I had fun managing my inventory, and it was always sort of intense deciding: throw away the shotgun I never use, or the HAZMAT costume I never use? HAZMAT. By the by, the HAZMAT suit should've looked a LOT cooler than an EOD costume. All puffy 'n' shit...
~Variety - And plenty of it! Food, clothes, and weapons; GOD, there's plenty of weapons, and a batch of variants for each! Damaged, customized stock, SpecOPS, suppressed, etc! It certainly made weight micromanaging look good. It makes you actually pay attention to what you're grabbing out of a container, and how much more crap you can take before you need to dump it somewhere. PROTIP: Whether you travel by day or night, darker clothes make you less noticeable! WEAR A BLACK HOODY WITH YOUR BLACK JEANS.
~Music/Ambience - An impressive, atmospheric track that seems to be a loop, but not noticeably so, and is a good adjustment for Union City's step up from stationary defense and random, luck-based searches to the actual exploration of civilization's last stop before 'safety' on the water. For the first time in dozens of flash games, I was compelled NOT to listen to youtube as background noise, and instead focus on how the soundtrack made this game as spooky as it needed to be!
~THE LAG - I'm not sure how Con-Artists program the Last Stand, but much like Road of the Dead, there needs to be a fucking change. I died nine times during my first playthrough on NG, and four during the second on Armor Games; all thirteen were consequential to the massive, browser-crippling, CPU-strangling lag. I lagged when I turned my flashlight on! I lagged when I crouched! I lagged when dogs were on-screen for more than three seconds! Hell, I even lagged when I just walked around in the daytime with no animated environmental elements, enemies, or complex motion; JUST walking. It gets so bad, my PC sounds like it's grinding its motherboard and RAM together in frustration! Were it not for this, the game would be relatively perfect - LOOK INTO IT.
~Companions - There's only two of them that use weapons, and if you decline #2 at first because #1 has a weapon you don't want to give up (like I did), you won't get another chance to recruit #2. Talking to them again, they'll just politely tell you to fuck off so they can die alone. What hell? And when I died, my #1 died. And never came back. Didn't really care considering they didn't really effect anything about the gameplay, but it's memorable enough to be bothered.
It's a great game, really! I played through the story TWICE, and I still wanna play more! The only problem, is the lag generated by the engine's programming! It's bad for my health having to stress about the lag! 8/10

That Was Fun!
I enjoyed this sequel to The Last Stand. It's good to have a character actually move around and search for stuff, rather than hiding behind a fort and shooting for your lives. The RPG aspect of the game gives it better depth, the vast weapons usage and variety is great, and you don't get inundated with zombies like the other two. (Sure, the inundation is there, but it's not that massive, which is a plus.)
I finally beat the game using the Hunter class. I highly recommend the class. I've also used the Law Enforcement one as well, and that's a good class as well. But definitely, if you want high fitness, survival, and long gun (which are rifles, shotguns, and the like), be a Hunter. :)
Fun & Innovative
I was pleasantly surprised by how good this game was. I chose to play in Hardcore mode, so that I had to worry about sleep & food. I tend to enjoy sandbox type survival/post apocalyptic games - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. being an example.
With all that said, this is not your normal 2-dimensional scrolling shooter. This game features character customization, a level system that provides significant impact on game play, and a pretty good inventory system featuring various trinkets, clothing, food, meds, and of course tons of guns. You can also pick up followers, although you only get a limited amount of control over them & what they do.
Music & sound quality are right on time for the overall level of game quality, and help create a zombie-esque feel for the game. There is actually a decent amount of story to the game, beyond simply "go fourth & destroy."
What is missing from the game, IMHO, is a certain degree of personal choice. Your character is driven to complete his goal, despite some pretty obvious indications throughout the game that he or she may not be making the best decisions for their continued existence. I won't spoil the story, but suffice it to say that zombie enthusiasts will see it coming long before it happens. Additionally, certain events in the game simply break the story. At one point in the game, the plot simply stops making sense, and you're just on this roller coaster of action, just kind of going along for the ride.
I think this game surprised a number of players, because the first two games were nowhere this deep. I see this as a huge step forward, and I look forward to more such offerings from the author.
I preferred the previous ones to this. The previous ones had great searching and holding out at night and were loads of fun as a small passtime but this one where you tried to turn it into some RPG thing thats long (and boring) as hell just didn't work. There are already way too many zombie survival games like this (Ala Dead Island) and making a 2d downgrade of a already overcrowded genre just made this boring.
I'm sure some people can find fun in this but when i've already played Left 4 dead to death and finished Dead Island twice among countless other zombie games I'm really not interested. Maybe your next one will be like the last two. I'd definitely play that but i couldn't be bothered to play this one. +6 stars for moving forward and having a bit of innovation but -4 for being unoriginal and not continuing with what worked.
Lets not mention the lag bug.
