Play in Survivor mode for a more realistic experience where the need food and sleep will be added to your survival requirements. Or play in Run'n'Gun mode and blast your way to freedom.
I enjoyed this game immensly. The gameplay was fun, customizing my character's look was a nice personal touch, picking between companions wasnt bad either though perhaps being able to give them multiple weapons or divy up the weight would be called for.
Another complaint, minor though it is, is weapon power. I found a hatchet relatively early and was able to go thru most of the game before finding a melee weapon of greater power.
Other than that minor point, the game is still great and a nice break from the norm of the other TLS games. I hope for more.

I like how you put some Fallout qualities and references as well as Resident Evil 5 (wall post - Jill's letter to Albert) and Modern Warfare (Pvt Ramirez) easter eggs. Tips to you gamers out there are these. 1) Max out special weapons. There is no skill book for it. 2) Don't fill your hunger bar completely. 3) If surrounded in a building, try to escape the building. 4) Follow the other commentators advice of using melee weapons mostly. 5) You can sleep even if your character is famished and then feed him/her after that. 6) Last tip, increase luck as much as possible. It increases the chances of getting food and ammunition from zombies. ^^

Great game, needs to work out some major issues.
I have to agree that this game is what a lot of people have been looking for, and AAA developers inexplicably refuse to deliver.
However, after the initial wave of euphoria one tends to have when starting a game of this caliber, you realize that it is nowhere near as polished as it should be. There are several game-breaking issues that others have mentioned and it lead me to lose the will to play through the entire game.
My own personal tale of woe is simple: A zombie horde broke through a ceiling (A terrible idea in the first place, it just gets tedious mowing them down and they glitch fairly easily), my controls lock up (no attack, no movement, no inventory), and both me and my companion (terrible AI and laughable defenses) go down. Sure, fine, no game is perfect, so I reload my save and try again, right? Wrong, it autosaves after I die so I'm left with no exp and no companion (or her gun. What, it just disappeared?).
I mean, that last one isn't even a glitch, there's a difference between a game being difficult and just kicking you in the nuts when you're down due to a situation it created itself, y'know?
Great fun, but needs a little tweaking.
Addicting, with an interesting plotline and progressive gameplay. The little details were poignant (the notes around the city, for example) and playing around with your weapon choices was amusing. A few rough edges here and there, which others have pointed out...
I agree with DarkKirby that you should be able to see an item's stats before you commit to buying it in the pawn shop, and while I still see the value of the guns as long-range weapons, melee is by far more efficient. The hunting bow is a heck of a lot of fun, though.
Re: Outlawstar15's comment regarding the "undefined" object: I picked this up too, when my character leveled at the same time that I was killing/looting a zombie fairly early on in the game (I'm afraid I don't remember the exact location). However, I found out that putting it in my safehouse storage/carrying it around with me resulted in unlimited storage space, as it changed the total weight of the contents to "NaN" instead of an actually number...
If your companion glitches, get to the closest door and enter to reset him/her. Annoying, but not game-ending.
There were two instances where the white left-hand side door in the first room of office settings in...Uptown, I think it was?...simply wouldn't open. There was no indication that they were locked or required keys, and you had the option of pressing E to open, but nothing happened.
My companion (armed with a long gun) was once stuck right beneath the ceiling when the zombies came crashing through, which resulted in him being virtually useless and getting stuck there every time I tried to save him (he immediately returned to shooting at the zombies as he got mobbed from all sides, followed by immediately dying again, rather than attempting to move to a slightly more sensible spot). I realize this is wishful thinking, but a little more of a sense of self-preservation would be nice in the companions.
Nitpicky detail: if you're playing a female character, one of the NPCs that you talk to (I think it was either the janitor or one of the survivors in the stadium) refer to your husband as a "she".
The save system was both a positive and a negative for me, though - once you die, you don't have the option of returning to the last time you actually saved the game. This also means that you lose your companion if he/she also fell, and you've lost him/her for the remainder of the game even if you saved prior to entering the room you died in - this is a bit frustrating later on in the game, though I realize it also keeps you from taking your progress for granted and assuming you have millions of lives a la Legend of Zelda.
Overall, I found myself coming back to this game again and again - well worth my time, and quite enjoyable!
