Good construction, bad mileage.
This game has great art, excellent characterization and outstanding music. It's original and fun. But I completed all the missions up until the first "traffic circle" and got the feeling the game had played all its cards. It ran out of steam, if you will, and I couldn't imagine doing this all over the entire map. Maybe I'll come back tomorrow, but right now my attention span fails me.
Flawless, but let's address the naysayers.
The most common complaint I see in the reviews is that you can't keep the upgrades between levels. This idea defeats the purpose of designing the initial tanks and the enemy tanks, and would alter the game so signifcantly that it's a moot point.
The solution's pretty obvious: Survival mode, where you go into increasingly difficult levels with a stronger and stronger tank, fueled by your ability to salvage. Now every body's happy!
Quite the fun game
For those of you confused with "damage control" its a combination of not letting your tank get destroyed, while damaging as few salvageable pieces from enemy tanks.
That is what brings the strategy up a notch, not just defeating the enemy, but doing so in a way that get you the most resources.
This gam could be a solid ten with a little tweaking. First off, the graphics are awesome and the combat is cool. The main problem is that the controls are too screwy. You shouldn't have to drive and control guns and pick up new blocks with the mouse. Let's get wasd up in this shit. Maybe make Space the fire button. Also, where the fuck did all my stuff go? I want to keep it after I'm done. I eventually quit playing out of sheer frustration with the UI.
Could use a sequel
I'd really love it if you guy's made a a sequel with this game, the major thing I want to see improved is the tank. The game would be much more fun if the tank would be upgradable and it wouldn't change for each level. And if the mission's could be longer and have enemies and the big tanks would be the bosses.
