Hey guys,

We're proud to present Newgrounds with our first game, Super Drift 3D.

Running on our own 3D engine and physics engine, our mission was to create a proper 3D driving game, with console sized levels and proper 3D handling and physics.

We're huge fans of arcade racers, and we were mainly inspired by Ridge Racer, Daytona, Outrun 2, and Initial D.

For my fellow Flash devs interested in 3D game development, I'm currently in the process of doing a Super Drift 3D making of series, which should hopefully be very useful to some of you - all published on my blog here - http://rumblesushi3d.com/
?cat=6

Use the arrow keys to control the car.
Space to reset car.
C to change camera.

Hope you enjoy the game :)

Music:

Menu - Avex Trax / Trust / Ayumi Hamasaki

Cherry Mountain - Sugar & Spice / DJ Dougal and DJ Hixxy

Coastal City - Rainbow in the Sky / DJ Paul Elstak

Neon Good Times - Crowd Pleasures / DJSS

Cheers,
Rumblesushi

Very good graphics, not-so-good mechanics

First let me say the mechanics are somewhat screwed up. Expert mode drifting is unreliable to execute (at least for me), and the speed boost during drifting does not seem realistic. Worst of all, wall-hugging a curve turns out to be faster than drifting round it properly.

That said, this is by far the nicest looking flash racing game I've seen, comparable to the old arcade classics like Daytona. Very impressive. Good choice of music tracks to complement the racing feel of the whole game. Overall very well done.

Just one thing: Why in the world would you not put a back button in the in-game menus?

rumblesushi responds:

Thanks for the review and fair point, I completely forgot about the back button on menus, there should be one. Regarding drifting, you can actually get much better times with perfect drifts round corners compared to wall hugging like Burnout - especially in the AE86 and Ferrari. Make sure to steer in early, and counter steer at the right time so you exit the corner straight. Regarding the speed boost, agreed - it's not remotely realistic, but I didn't want it to be - in fact the extra speed boost (with orange smoke) from the AE86 is inspired by Mario Kart :)

Regarding expert mode, I find it much more reliable than easy mode, but I guess that's due to how much I've played Ridge Racer, it's like second nature.

Oopsies...

I agree with everyone, however, this one hilarious thing happened... in the coastal city, almost right at the goal, out of the cave thing, i rear ended the computer, he went flying and flipped over.... Not what I thought would happen, but I'll take it! XD

I had fun.

This is one of the best racing games I've played on NG.
The graphics are amazing, and it stayed so smooth throughout a race.
The music is also a great choice for the game.
But, I have to say, the controls were annoying at points.
I had fun though, and that's all that matters.

back buttons

would be really nice since i accidentally click things i didn't mean to click :<
as it is, there is no way to go back without starting the game then quitting from there, which is really annoying u__u

my only real qualm, i suppose. i rather enjoyed the music c:
