This is a (very) quick demonstration version of a project that I released last month, Crystal Towers 2. The full game is - as concisely as I can put it - a 90s-styled hub-based sort of Metroidish-Mario 64ish platform game, based on the style of the DOS platformers I grew up with, that was started in 2007 and has since been dragged successfully through every patch of Multimedia Fusion 2 that has ever been released. It's technically the sequel to my first big platformer project, released in 2005, but it's so different from it now that it might as well be completely separate.

This demo shows off the first level, and various challenges that you can expect to find throughout the game. Here's the storyline from the downloadable edition - as Bernard the monk, your task is to recover the eight Music Crystals and restore harmony to the world, by exploring and gathering new items to get stronger and discover new abilities.

The full game is much bigger (and probably runs a lot faster) than the demo, and you can find it at the game's site:

http://www.crystaltowers2 .com

Controls for this demo:

Move: Arrows
Jump: X
Magic: Z (and C once you've found the second spell)
Restart challenge: ESC

Something is missing

As an earlier reviewer put it it is like sonic the hedgehog. Very similar style. What made sonic fun was the speed at which the player was allowed to move. The character in this moves painfully slowly so all the fun has been sucked out of it. It
does have a lot of potential however.

I would not personally pay for this game.

I think people must be getting a lot more slowdown than I expected. You could see if the video preview on the game's site seems to run faster than this Flash demo does.

there is better

Well it's look bad, small resolution, lack of story and really bad graphics. Newgrounds has so much better in it and this tyoe off game is just weak, the animation his basic. But it's still demo so hope you get it better

$5 dollars or not...

...I can't see why anyone would pay for this. Not that it's particularly bad, but the Internet is rife with well designed platformers with prettier graphics and more creative gameplay for free. And frankly playing this just felt like a painfully slow version of Sonic the Hedgehog. Pretty decent, but there's just no reason to play when you can just whip out the old SNES and play 'Super Mario World' for the hundredth time.

Neither can I, though sales have been going pretty well. It must be because it has a flying cat in it.
