ABOUT THE GAME
=========================
Snailiad is an 8-bit-inspired game, which uses the NES palette most of the time, and uses NES music I wrote using Famitracker. I hope you enjoy it! :-) There's some references to eight-bit classics that helped inspire Snailiad, and you might also find a cameo or two from RPG Shooter: Starwish, if you play long enough.

Big thanks to:

AdamAtomic, for Flixel!
xdanond, for drawing some stuff!
newstarshipsmell, for lots of testing!
jsr, for Famitracker!

ABOUT SAVE DATA
=========================
Starting with Flash Player 10.3, Flash save data gets DELETED if you clear cookies or browser history. If you're having trouble with saves, this list might help:
1. Don't clear your cookies or history
2. Make sure the Flash Storage Settings say "Unlimited"
3. Make sure "private browsing" is OFF
4. Make sure "clear browser history on exit" is OFF
5. Make sure "block sites from setting any data" is OFF (for Chrome users)
6. Don't run a program that deletes stuff, like CCleaner or Better Privacy

FINDING 100% ITEMS
=========================
Once you defeat the final boss, you unlock the "radar"! The radar tells you how many items are left in the current area.

HIDDEN MODE
=========================
There's a hidden mode in Snailiad! Once you've unlocked it, it will be one of the choices in "NEW GAME", below EASY and NORMAL.

TROUBLESHOOTING
=========================
If you set your browser zoom below 100%, the bottom and right sides of the game will get cut off. Please make sure your zoom is at least 100%!

The one point

of contention I have is with the gravity controls. They work okay, and it's a wonderful mechanic, but sometimes in all of the frenzied jumping and shooting, you end up sending yourself flying when you didn't want to, or end up crawling up a wall when you want to stay on the floor.

Also, I have one question: can you only get the Speed Runner medal on Normal difficulty? I beat Easy mode under that, but I didn't get the medal.

Those very minor things aside, it's a great game, and addicting too.

Yeah, you can get Speed Runner on normal or slug mode.

Holy balls, it's like Metroid all over again!

I'ma say it up front: you didn't get a 10/10 rating because of the gravity thing. It's really complicated, that's for sure, and with all the giant rainbow waves coming out of your dude, let alone the chaos of certain battles, it gets hard to see what orientation and state your dude is in. I find myself mashing keys to evade attacks, then I find myself going "owait no don't do that!" then I try to flip the fk out in the air, only to go in the wrong direction =(

But in the end, practice makes perfect. Too little too late though, as by then, I was done with all the regular medals and I was running around trying to find the fabled Snelk rooms and Super Secret Boomerangs. To my disappointment, the Super Secret Boomerang was just a regular boomerang =( Anyways, I think in the future you should avoid combining gravity and wall/ceiling crawling in a single game.

Now for the positive:

Nearly everywhere you look, there's a secret! That's one of the things that made replays of this game very enjoyable; the other being you're t3h DEVASTATORZ and you can have fun just flying through the rooms rampaging, destroying everything xD You can also visit other snails to see what they say, and it changes as you progress through the game.

Other fine-tune polish and random junk:
--Sometimes if I'm holding two arrow keys while going down a "stairway" terrain, you start spazzing out and going ninety degrees every two frames or so, while slowly trekking in the direction you were heading. It fixes itself relatively fast though.
--You can move in the air as a shell if you duck in your shell and press directions.
--You can fall into a 1-space crack in the ground by retracting into your shell. But then you get stuck and can't move if you do this in certain areas like the icy places. Thank jebus for in-game reloading!
--I found a Secret Snelk in Lux Lirata, but does it mean anything? I've also found a Secret Snelk in Spiralis Silere, but I'm pretty sure I know what it indicates.
--Was Moon Snail ever Sun Snail before the game began?

This game was definitely a treat! Three cheers for auriplane!

...

Starts good, but just gets worse and worse as the game progresses. Especially the gravity shift ability completely mucked it up, as you get used to the old controls and instantly find yourself using new ones. You didn't think THAT through..
