ABOUT THE GAME
=========================
Snailiad is an 8-bit-inspired game, which uses the NES palette most of the time, and uses NES music I wrote using Famitracker. I hope you enjoy it! :-) There's some references to eight-bit classics that helped inspire Snailiad, and you might also find a cameo or two from RPG Shooter: Starwish, if you play long enough.

Big thanks to:

AdamAtomic, for Flixel!
xdanond, for drawing some stuff!
newstarshipsmell, for lots of testing!
jsr, for Famitracker!

ABOUT SAVE DATA
=========================
Starting with Flash Player 10.3, Flash save data gets DELETED if you clear cookies or browser history. If you're having trouble with saves, this list might help:
1. Don't clear your cookies or history
2. Make sure the Flash Storage Settings say "Unlimited"
3. Make sure "private browsing" is OFF
4. Make sure "clear browser history on exit" is OFF
5. Make sure "block sites from setting any data" is OFF (for Chrome users)
6. Don't run a program that deletes stuff, like CCleaner or Better Privacy

FINDING 100% ITEMS
=========================
Once you defeat the final boss, you unlock the "radar"! The radar tells you how many items are left in the current area.

HIDDEN MODE
=========================
There's a hidden mode in Snailiad! Once you've unlocked it, it will be one of the choices in "NEW GAME", below EASY and NORMAL.

TROUBLESHOOTING
=========================
If you set your browser zoom below 100%, the bottom and right sides of the game will get cut off. Please make sure your zoom is at least 100%!

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

This game is so awesome, I played (and won) it 3 times!!! :D It has a great story, good animations, and awesome graphics. I was interested in flixel and what it could do, but then I played this game. I am now looking into making a game with flixel. I also look at snails in a new way. Way to go! :D

Extremely good

This reminds me heavily of Cave Story, in that it's really good, has perfect retro graphics and music, and the gameplay is just plain fun. The dialogue is funny and I like how even snails you haven't seen for a long time have something new to say every once in awhile. Some of the hidden areas are diabolical, and some had me freak out when I unexpectedly stumbled upon them. This really could be something you might see on Xbox Live's indie games section; I'd certainly pay for it. If you make a sequel, count me first in line. Very, very good job.

amazing game

this game is one of the best games on newgrounds. it is awsome and fun. the game is hard but it is not impossible. the graphics are good the controls are good the upgrades are amazing. it is awsome. i love the bosses to. there is really not to much to say that is bad about this game really. the only minor complaint i have is about gravity snail. when i first got it it was really hard but now i have pretty much mastered it. great game i love it i hope you will make a sequel to this game great job. 10/10 5/5 simply amazing

Best game I have ever played

I liked the story and the idea when I first began playing Snailiad. Though I had a hard time playing at first (I've never played actively anything, not these Metroidvanias etc. people are mentioning), I couldn't give up. And I finally beat it!

The game is awesome, all in all. Nice music, great basic idea, versatile game play, not to mention the artwork, snails' lines, the amusing credits. And even though some complain about the gravity thingy, I found it very helpful and easy to use.

a great metroid style game

obviously this is another interpretation to the metroid formula but it's hard to argue with a formula that is already so satisfying. there are tons of stuff to search for and since youre constantly getting new items it brings a sense of addiction and good progresion I was worried that the radar would ruin the fun of mystery and discovery so fondly found in old school adventure games but the great thing is that it just tells you which map area to go not the specific place to look I really like the game and I love that it has several features just like any full game. my only complaints is that the music is sort of so so but thats a really minor complaint I hope to see more from you!
