Snailiad is an 8-bit-inspired game, which uses the NES palette most of the time, and uses NES music I wrote using Famitracker. I hope you enjoy it! :-) There's some references to eight-bit classics that helped inspire Snailiad, and you might also find a cameo or two from RPG Shooter: Starwish, if you play long enough.

Big thanks to:

AdamAtomic, for Flixel!
xdanond, for drawing some stuff!
newstarshipsmell, for lots of testing!
jsr, for Famitracker!

Starting with Flash Player 10.3, Flash save data gets DELETED if you clear cookies or browser history. If you're having trouble with saves, this list might help:
1. Don't clear your cookies or history
2. Make sure the Flash Storage Settings say "Unlimited"
3. Make sure "private browsing" is OFF
4. Make sure "clear browser history on exit" is OFF
5. Make sure "block sites from setting any data" is OFF (for Chrome users)
6. Don't run a program that deletes stuff, like CCleaner or Better Privacy

Once you defeat the final boss, you unlock the "radar"! The radar tells you how many items are left in the current area.

There's a hidden mode in Snailiad! Once you've unlocked it, it will be one of the choices in "NEW GAME", below EASY and NORMAL.

If you set your browser zoom below 100%, the bottom and right sides of the game will get cut off. Please make sure your zoom is at least 100%!

While playing it..

I forgot i was on newgrounds playing a flash game lol !
It just has that something which makes ppl crazy and addicted, like zelda or sonic..
It is great!!
And btw is this inspired by an original game of nes (i think) cause i remember playing a game with a snail in my childhood but cant recall anything else..

It's actually inspired by a bunch of NES games! I'm not sure I remember one with a snail, though.

Pretty cool!

I enjoyed this a whole lot. After collecting all the items and map locations, it said I unlocked the slug... But... How do I use it??

Too much fun~

I easily spent 3 hours+ just going around killing things in the wonderful atmosphere after getting 100% completion. hehe

All around fun game, easy to grip controls, progressive power-ups that bring us back to the golden age of metroid, simple and cute bosses, an all around cute atmosphere of snails and vegetation (and the occasional pit of fire), and a "complete" ending for those of us with OCD for collectibles. :D

I do applaud the work put into this, but there is one thing that I find odd.. Has anyone bothered to question the STRAFE function? O:

auriplane responds:

I wasn't sure what to call it! Maybe TURRET? Strafe's probably a misnomer. I think the game's complete without it, but some testers really wanted it, so I left it in the configuration menu for "hardcore" players to find, just in case. I hope I made the right call!
