EDIT: v1.1 submitted. v1.1 converts typing the combination into clicking, as was originally planned for. Most books and quotes are now manually exit-able, as requested by many. Also, most of the hotspots for movement are smaller and now only cover an area slightly bigger than the arrow. Plus a few other bugfixes.

Submitted for Newgrounds Game Jam 5. The game was made in three days, as with all the other Game Jam games.

The Outsider is a point-and-click adventure using only mouse controls. Click on items to interact with them or pick them up. Click on items in inventory to use them or combine them with other iventory items.

This is Team New World Order's entry into the Newgrounds Game Jam 5! The theme was literature, and we have adapted H.P. Lovecraft's short story The Outsider into a point and click adventure game. I had a blast working with Aigis and J-qb this past weekend, and we all had fun giving it our all.

There's really not a whole lot to say in terms of the game. We'll let it speak for itself. Any bug reports go to me. Near the end the game looked like it was about to fall apart, but thankfully my programming and Aigis's testing saved us from total failure. Nevertheless, there may be some remnants of the more uncommon bugs or glitches in there, but we know the game is perfectly playable.

Also, the original short story, The Outsider, is available to read online. Search for it.

Great, Short, and Simple

This game has a great background drawing. Realistic and great. It is quite short, and yet easy. Sometimes longer escape games can be more annoying, and doesn't want the player to continue. It has a different kind of ending that I've never seen before.

Most escape games are just escaping out of the room, kitchen, basement, hospital, hotel, living room. It's too cliche, but your game's ending lets the player bring more curiosity into the game.

Now I only scored it 9/10 because this game is a bit too short and easy. The kind of ending should let the player use more logic into the game. The story's ending isn't one's you see everyday. It may only happen once a year, or once few months.

Overall great storyline and drawing. This is such an outstanding game.

Keep going, you have a very great imagination and mind. I hope to see more escape games coming from such an intelligent person like you.

Thank you.

Finally, some Lovecraft stuff...

... that isn't a card game! I greatly appreciate your submission and I'm glad there's finally more Lovecraft inspired work on Newgrounds!

Nice Story!

A little to short and simple and easy. But still, good job! It has a nice, sad, and appreciable story.

BTW guys, I only used the cleaver to cut one of the parts stick out of the branch (so that it looked like a magic wand from Harry Potter afterwards).

Lovecraftian Indeed

I thought you did a good job of capturing the feeling in the story. I never found out what the cleaver did. Honestly my only complaint would be it seemed like there's more from the story you could've included, like The Outsider's mother. That scene still give me chills

The plot is a little cliche, but for a 3-day game, this went past my every expectation. Good dialogue that is highly symbolic and image invoking as well as a great environment. I'm very glad I played this. Best "game jam" game of any kind without
a doubt. Excellent job.

Also, lilium music is absolutely gorgeous. I love that song.
