Based on the events of Herman Melville's novel, play as Captain Ahab and relive the final battle between he and Moby Dick.
Made for the 5th Game Jam in 72 hours with:
Art by: The Marvelous Tyler
Music/VoiceActing by: The Magnificent Suezo
And Code by: VicBiss
Arrow keys to move
Z to jump
X to shoot
I know it's called Ahab's STRUGGLE, but...
It's not very well made, I'm afraid.
Graphics are alright, and I did like Ahab's voice for the various quotes.
Those're the good points.
Now, the problems:
The controls are horrendously sluggish. Yeah, you're a sea captain jumping on the wrecked remnants of a ship, but it just feels dreadful.
The point of having a game with "challenge" is to make the challenge rewarding.
This brings me to my next point:
Not enough attack power from Ahab: too much defense/HP on the White Whale.
You want to emphasize the challenge of fighting a giant whale with an insane ship captain? Fine.
Do it in ways other than adding a "0" at the end of the HP values for the Whale.
Or give it weak points or something, like having it do more damage when you throw the spears into the mouth.
It was also sometimes difficult to dodge the Whale's attacks, especially considering how badly telegraphed some attacks were.
It feels like a joyless grind rather than an epic struggle against a force of nature.
Go back to the drawing board and make this better.
I think Ahab should have his arm missing too....right?
BTW, why cant you jump+attack?
The Z and X buttons do not work
Though I can tell this is a good game the jump and attack do not work.
Literary paradox win!
At first I thought the game was ridiculously difficult but as they say, "third time's the charm." On my third attempt I got into the rhythm of the game and got the whale to half health with most of my health still intact. Eventually I slipped up though and got dropped to half health by a barrage of water drops, water vacuum, and spiked platforms.
Anyways, the game does require patience and a basic knowledge of platforming and cue recognition. To those who think this game is difficult, I say, go play Ninja Gaiden on the NES, then you can complain.
Great game here, keep up the good work.
Thanks dude, you're the best :)
Ending was worth it.
Also, this game just puts your platforming skills to the test, so people that be complaining just suck at platform related games.
Allllllmost had There she blows. Got me right to half health with a water droplet right before it went down :<
