I really like this game but...

because you can use either the mouse or arrow keys the character gets stuck a lot and won't respond to the arrows or will randomly go crazy even if the mouse isn't on the screen :-(

Good Game. But Some Annoying Things.

This is a really good game and the upgrades are awesome, But
two things that make some parts of the game unplayable.
1:all meadals are there forever even if you clear the game data,
there should be a "Delete medal data" Button.
2:There is a glitch that makes it so You cant land on platforms i think if you use a bonus character, You should try to get rid of that,
over all, its a pretty fun game and i recomend People who like this game should check out gonzossm's other games,And post a review Yourself.

I've never really understood the fun of upgrade-games. I can see how getting stronger as the... um, "story", unfolds is a good thing, but progressing for the sake of progressing has never been one of my favorite goals of a game.
Goin Up takes everything that is good about upgrade games, includes a few crossover-jokes, and voila, you have a front-page, four-out-of-five stars game.

The art style is a pleasant mix that suits this type of game very well. The animations are smooth, with a few bugs here and there. Overall, this is a nice game to watch, and the different characters have been re-made to fit together nicely. A lot of effort must have gone into the sprites. and it shows.

Goin Up fails where every other upgrade game so far has failed: the music. There's only one track, and it is repetitive and annoying. It's a good thing there's a mute button, otherwise I wouldn't even have tried to get the achievement for playing one hour.

I have to admit, the concept is pretty solid: jump on enemies to collect money and receive an upward boost. The money you can use to buy stuff that will keep you alive longer or give you more upward boosts.
The game actually has four objectives:

Get to level ten!
This is nothing more than a very obvious way to keep you playing. Jump on a lot of enemies to make your character grow (which has absolutely no effect I believe).

Get to the top!
I'm not sure if this actually is an objective, but it sure is hard as hell. I've reached a height of over 7000 ft, and it didn't seem like it would be coming to an end soon. If it was, there should have been something to indicate this.

Buy everything!
This is what you'd expect in an upgrade-game, but, strangely enough, it's actually greatly underdeveloped. There's not a lot you can actually buy, and most upgrades are way too expensive to get, especially when you want to do something else on the same day that you play this game.
Also, some of the upgrades are far stronger than others, improportionate to their price. For instance, the "Dad" skin costs twice as much as the "Turtle" skin, but has more disadvantages in comparison to the latter than you'd expect at this cost.
The ultimate objective, I believe, is to buy the secret character, which costs 20000 skulls. That's right, you'll have to jump on 20,000 enemies in order to see what this is. That means you'll have to play the same level over and over again until you finally have enough money to see what the hell it's all about.
I haven't seen the secret skin, for my patience failed me, but I don't think anything's worth playing this game so long for.

Earn all achievements!
Not very special, not very funny, not very original. Since the achievements are in-game, you won't earn any newgrounds-points, and that isn't much of an incentive.

Overall, Goin Up isn't a bad game. It has what any upgrade-game should have, but I still don't quite see why it got front-paged. The graphics are nice, the music can be muted and I guess the different objectives are a welcome addition. If you're looking for a game with a compelling story and innovative gameplay, look somewhere else. If you're looking for twenty minutes of fun jumping on flying goomba's heads, Goin Up is the place to be. If you have nothing better to do and are willing to sacrifice a lot of time, just to see that secret character, Goin Up definitely is the place to be. Apart from a mental clinic, of course.
