Ogre & The Witch

Well, after some technical issues here we go!
This movie was created using traditional experimental techniques- by doing the artwork with crayon and pastel, then scanning and manipulating the images in flash. This was a school project, but I think it's quite entertaining ;) Anyways, Enjoy

Good, but story lacks.

I like the animation, don't see much classical stuff anymore. It seems to work well, though there were a few rough patches.

I took three stars off for the story, since I found it a bit boring(no offense).

I think you could've had it to be a bit more entertaining in my opinion.

Not to say that the plot you did have wasn't good at all, it just needed some work.

Maybe the Ogre could've morphed into the witch herself, then had a epic fight scene with the original witch dying, then the Orge saying an epic quote of the sorts.

Eh, just my opinion.

Wow that idea is actually very good!

Funny

Negative aspects first: 15MB, I was hoping for something longer here. Good thing that I got VDSL installed at my home two months ago. With my old connection this flash would've taken forever to load.

Ranting done, on with the actual review:
I don't know what it is, but I really like the graphics here. Sure, they may look "childish" in some way, but at least I haven't seen any flash before that made use of this crayon-like graphics. So you get some points for originality here. ;)

The story is very fast paced, but at least you don't drag the flash along endlessly. You come straight to the point, which I really like (may sound like I'm contradicting myself here with my previous rant. But I was only ranting about the file size, not about the length of the flash).

I think the animations should be a lot smoother. You have some very good animations in this flash, like when the witch pours the liquid, but sometimes you only have still frames, which destroys the flow of the flash a bit.

Overall I give you 8 stars because I found this flash highly entertaining and I want to encourage you to produce more episodes in the future. :)

ToonCastleTV responds:

lol thanks I apreciate it. I'm well aware that animation could have been smoother but it works well enough to visualize at least. This was only made for school and I am working on flash based projects now! but they will still continue to be dope ;)

Hmm... I'm not sure

Really and truly, this one has me stumped. It might be the child-like quality of the drawing that you've animated and the cross-overs with the rest of the piece, where there is actual animation and some basic techniques (the liquid from the bottle, the product of the brew morphing, that sort of thing), but I feel that you've been let down in a way by this.

Do not despair, perhaps a little touching up work can be done, before animating - keep the textured look to the drawing, that works well, but perhaps consider trying to re-draw some of the images, like one of the witches' faces had a smudge over the eyes and those sorts of things take away from the presentation of the piece as a whole.

I think that the writing is pretty good and the way you left it with the wizard character looking in a crystal ball could seem like a cliff hanger, though maybe have a line in there for him, as opposed to leaving it completely open ended, with part of the script that some people might miss.

Certainly worth developing and perhaps you'll be able to make more of a production of it, for future episodes. I look forward to it.

ToonCastleTV responds:

Cool man good advice. Altho I definitely won't be touchingup the production or making future episodes. wouldn't of even of made this if i didnt have to (school project) But I will add a line by the Wizard, and play off the ending a bit :) Good advice. Ty! ^^

edited: tried it out and it just didnt seem right =(

I liked it

~~REVIEW~~
yeah it was a pretty big file you should cut it down somewhat, but i like the idea you had with this one, the color, and such that was pretty interesting so props to you on that one, the animation was right on could be abit more {SMOOTHER} but for the mostpart i rather thought it was just fine, as for the voices that was notbad could be a little more clearer and sharper sounding at times, but again other then that this was an alright piece, and while the file was very large it was a good flash kinda short but still entertaining and very amusing, so once again nice job and i look forward to anything else you may have worked up for us, untill then good luck

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
I mentioned a few things were animation could be abit smoother and voices could be sharper aswell, file was really large maybe that could be looked into aswell.

~~OVERALL~~
A short yet amusing flash.

~X~

ToonCastleTV responds:

Well it was either normal quality at 5mb, or high quality at 15 mb, and i pursured the high quality in hopes of higher entertainment value. True animation could have been smoother, but animating in this style takes time so I took every shortcut I could that would leave me with a sufficable submission. This was a school project also, and I LITERALLY, finished this without 1 minute to spare... ^^ As for the voices it was due to the mic I used unfortunately =( I have a good quality one for future pieces. thanks buddy

fresh and interesting!

wow, i gotta say this isn't your run of the mill flash because...well..its crayon!

i have never seen an animation done in this style, and i gotta say it was interesting.

"unlockus maximus!" XD i like that line.

you would get a 10 except for 2 things

1- the audio cracks a bit when they talk, and its a bit distracting.
2- the loading time...its a bit big considering the length.

besides that sweet flash and interesting idea!

ToonCastleTV responds:

Haha, I just went and fixed the sound issue the best I could ;) Should be good now. Thanks man ^^
and word, I could have had a 5mb file with OK quality but I wanted high quality so thats why the big file.
