This is the biggest Flash project that I've done, ever. Also, it's my first time using color and CS5 filters (and flash ads)!
Anyway, this is my final project for a seminar class on the works of Hayao Miyazaki (aka the best class ever). I pulled many themes from what I tend to notice in his works, but presented it in a fairly different way. So, it's more of a Miyazaki-meets cyberpunk plot (yea I'm not comparing my animation to Miyazaki, trust me). I do hope to retouch this concept in the future, since I was crunched for time to get this done today--but I'm still super happy with the result!
The track is 'Gax' (hence the title) by Boys Noize, edited to fit the animation.
I hope you enjoy it!!!

*for those of you who are interested, I wrote an explication for this project that is available here: d

Very interesting piece

I actually like the mood and although nothing much happens in the first half it's still quirky enough to keep you interested. If you don't mind me saying so, this piece has more similarities to Katsuhiro Otomo, which to a lot of people is the grandfather of the cyberpunk/neo-tokyo style. I know you weren't necessarily going for that but that's just how it feels.

I'm not too sure how this relates to Miyazaki in the deeper sense. However, I give an 8 for saying "Hayao Miyazaki" and creating an interesting flash

I wouldn't expect a 12 y/o /b/ tard to appreciate it. You're not what I'd call my target audience.

Very, very cool stuff. At first, I thought, some of the visuals were too basic; almost amateurish. But, you gladly proved me wrong. As I kept watching, the animation and art style kept getting more amazing. This grimly elegant universe, coupled with simple electronic music, and a side order of the matrix make for a truly unique and genuine animation. It got me thinking "What if?" and that's something I rarely do on Newgrounds. I'm glad you picked my brain and I'm glad I watched this animation. Cool stuff, keep it up!

Otaku32 responds:

To be honest, I only saw the parallel between this and the Matrix after a friend mentioned it to me. As I was writing it i saw some pretty obvious parallels with Serial Experiments Lain and Evangelion, which are coincidentally two of my favorite anime. So I guess it just came through subconsciously
I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. I've uploaded an explication, check the movie description :)
