Artsy, tasteful, and refreshing
I really liked the style of this, it is truly a piece of art and goes beyond the call of the average Flash animation. I feel like if you were to have recited the poem in the background, the distracting pauses would be gone and I would think a little more highly of the piece, but I am not feeling the pauses. They take away from a great animation, although, I am sure this will be an A for you, as it is obvious you have programming/scripting and artistic skills. I hope you do well in the course!

Good effort
It was a little boring, and most of the story wasn't in the animation itself. But for your first effort on Newgrounds it's better than most of the stuff that comes through here. I expect you to get more competent with the program and your animations to become more smooth in the future.
