A good attempt but needs lots of work. I've always been a fan of getting things working well before adding more content. Things like the boss on the 1st level's hit box is a square (I think) so I was being hit when I wasn't touching him.
Graphics as always sell a game but I know what its like if your a programmer then squares and circles are your friend so not much critic on that really.

Good effort, but needs some improvement
Let's talk about the title screen. Imagine someone playing this with headphones at full blast and they hear the explosion at the beginning. That's gunna scare the living crap out of them, and that's not gunna do you any good here. Two things need improvement here:
1. Lower the volume of the explosion a little (PLZ)
2. The title screen's okay, but it wouldn't hurt to make it a little fancier
Simple, sweet and to the point. It looks okay, but the color in the background's lacking. And some of the enemies could have a little bit of improvement here.
Simplistic controls that need some fixing to do.
The biggest problem is that sometimes when you try to jump on a platform, you fall straight through it, which is kind of annoying and defies all gaming logic O.o. The power ups are pretty simple, but it would be better if you could instantly tell what power up it would be by the design like *cough cough* CONTRA :D lol. And it'd be better if they'd last longer. And the spread shot could spread out more :o.
Pretty awesome. That's all I can say :)
5/10 depends if you're REALLY bored or not.

The explosion volume was supposed to get fixed but because this was a class project we just didn't get around to it
we tried to avoid the colour to make it seem more dark, as well as making it more of a stick universe
we never figured out that platform fall thru problem fixed.
