(This game is now available on Android for free! Find it on Google Play under 'Spike: A Love Story'.)
(And for you medal-grinders out there, you can press ESC to restart!)
It's not easy being a spike-trap. By design, players are supposed to get by you without TOO much trouble. But you just can't do that. After years of seeing the same guy running by, over and over, day after day -- you realize you're in love. Unfortunately, the only means by which you can express this love is by showing him how good you are at crushing him into a tasty broth. Someday, you're sure, he'll get the hint.
This game was made with the wonderful Flashpunk, which made the nightmare of making this a lot less nightmarish, and more of a restless bad dream.
PROTIPS: Be patient. Wait for the right moment to strike! It takes a second or two to reset yourself, and in that time he can escape! Unless there's a powerup he'll never just run straight through.

I love it

I love your concept and creativity with the story. It's a shame you did not incorporate that in the main game (you put the explanation in the description). I didn't get that in the first run through that he/she/it was in love. Anyway, this is fun, addicting, and funny. With a few tries and enough concentration, people should be able to get the hang of it.

I did find it a little frustrating on waiting through the intro every time I tried to re-do story mode, which can be a little annoying if you try to get 25 in story mode, but I guess that's just a part of the frustration the challenge is supposed to give you.

It isn't much of a deal breaker, but I felt like the story needed more closure.

I enjoyed the animations and various creative (and desperate) attempts of the man trying to get across. I give it an 8/10

Poor thwomps

Boy Inever knew how those thwomps felt. Now I'm never going to be able to not get crushed by one without feeling like I've hurt its feelings. God forbid of the 10th plumber he missed that week. he might get fired. That thwomp has thwimps to feed

This game really tests your patience...

I found this game to be addictive. Whether it be addictive because it's fun or it's because it's hard, I have no idea. First, the graphics were nice, detailed, and the colors were not just solid, and that's basically mandatory when it comes to art. I also liked the sound effects and music, but the music reminds me of the nutcracker suite for some reason. I don't know about that, but that's just me. But there was some issues that just puzzled me. First, some runs have a very random factor, and what I mean by that, is the fact that the game ends whenever it feels like it. One run I completed with only 12 kills, and I still complete the game. But then on the next run, I get 16 kills, and suddenly comes a game over without finishing the run. I don't know about you, but that's messed up. Second, why the space bar? Yeah, it's a common button when used for games like these, but it's rather ridiculous considering that people may have sticky keys. And I understand that this game tests your patience and timing, but this is more about reflexes once you get the pattern, and even if you do have the timing, your reflexes would have to be exact on. Otherwise, the little guy's going to survive. That's something a lot of people hate. It doesn't help the fact that even playing through multiple times would help either. So really, this game is mostly about reflexes rather than timing.

I found this game to be just a little entertaining, and I hope you can spruce it up a little more. I'm not sure if you're working on another project right now, but good luck on that!

Good game, but 1 feature is pretty dumb.

It's a bit rediculous really that if you press spacebar as soon as he goes under the trap, its really a game of chance whether the spike goes down fast enough or not. At times when he stands directly next to the trap, then jumps past or whatever you need rediculous reaction speed to trap him, leaving little room for fuckups elsewhere.
