Pokemon perfectly translated to TD

Prelude: I am a hardcore, and exclusively, first-generation Pokemon player/lover. Hence I may be biased.

Before this game came along, I did not enjoy tower defense games one bit. This game remains the only exception, and a spectacular one at that. I'll review each aspect of the game by chapter, for even in an alpha state that has yet to reach badge three of ten it's quite expansive.

Story mode
Obviously the meat of the game, story mode has about the same learning curve as you'd expect from Pokemon B/R. Each gym is going to be hard as fuck if you haven't grinded, as is the various roads like Mt. Moon and after Nugget Bridge. But I like that. Grinding is all too easy if not time-consuming like in the original, I like a challenge despite that. In story mode knowledge is power. In each case matching type weaknesses is your surest path to victory.

Mystery gift
Free shinys. Some (like me) consider it to be a weekly limited-time bonus. Others consider it to be the crux of keeping the game interesting. Either way it's nothing but goodness.

Challenge mode
Exactly as its name implies. The way you're challenged is incredibly varied. It can include preassigned Pokemon, hard as hell versions of past levels, and Pokemon you're just expected to catch/use on the spot. And that's just so far. At any rate it's going to be varied and live up to its name.

Pokemart
Don't evolve anyone via stone without confirming they have no moves left to learn. That is all.

Trading
You're going to find random shiny shit. Other players are going to find random shiny shit. I personally have an excess of shiny Butterfree and Vulpix due to playing by singularity clause. This is useful. And you can get Alakazam/Golem by trading with yourself.

Pokemart/move relearner/TMs
Insanely helpful. The Nugget Bridge is the first of what I assume to be many cases where your Pokemon are on the defensive and all those seemingly useful moves come in handy. Any rational person would reject moves like Agility and Recover up to that point only to suddenly want them then. Same for many TMs. This is especially a good option in an alpha. TMs are also usable however many times you want which was a pretty essential part of the Missingno glitch to me.

In general
I love that it only uses the 151 OGs I'm familiar with while mixing it with movesets across the board and going along the R/B story line. This game is basically my idyllic version of Pokemon R/B in that regard mixed with an actual good TD style. You can capture, level and evolve in much the same ways as the original. You can look through my highly selective reviews of games on this site but to date this is my favorite of all time so far.
