The sequel to my game from 2005, with all new graphics, engine and other improvements. Infect red bloodcells, fight against the immune system, do the evolution and go pandemic once more!
Edit 03/24/2011 :
Thanks to everyone who left some constructive criticism.
A stern look of dissaproval at the reviewers that did nothing but whine.
Either way, here's the update!
Changelog v.1.2:
-) Fixed control issue where you would accidentally pick up the wrong germ
-) Germs drifting towards the edge slow down to enable easier herding
-) Fixed NaN bug
-) Fixed "Black Death" Achievement (if you already fell victim to this bug, just hit "Continue Game" and start playing, this should unlock the achievement and medal)
-) Added additional hints regarding the fact that you can save dying germs by quickly dragging them onto the next red bloodcell
-) Made the bigger white bloodcells slightly easier to kill
-) Fixed the wording of the campaign ending screen, of course they are parasitic germs and NOT virii (although they used to be virii in the first game)
-) That's it for now, I would start feeling dirty if I'd please everyone. (also the core issues should be addressed, thus making the overall experience a more pleasant one)
Changelog v.1.21:
-) Made the mute button in the main menu more obvious

nice concept, but still needs improvement
the game was fun to play for a while. but it gets repetitve soon afterwards because basically you keep repeating the same process (infecting and killing other cells) over and over until it becomes a chore. the game certainly lacks variety. you should include missions, such as finding the right organ to incubate, etc. to keep the game more interesting to play. also upon finishing the campaign mode, you should include more detailed cutscene showing what happened exactly to mankind. this will not only make finishing the campaign mode more rewarding, this will also avoid leaving questions about the ending unanswered.
the difficulty has to be adjusted because in my opinion, the learning curve is not smooth enough. i understand that players need to play through easier levels at the beginning of the game to get used to the gameplay. however, the first few levels were far too easy. there are little whiteblood cells and lots of red blood cells for you to infect and reproduce. the whiteblood cell to red blood cell ratio is too low, and most of the time these eariler levels can be completed in seconds. thoses levels should be more difficult to complete. the game was far too easy for me until i reached a certain level in the campagin mode. it suddenly becomes much harder than before while i had only just enough EPs to buy a few upgrades. (don't know if it was because the viruses kept flying off the screen).
maybe you should work on that by adding a barrier that keeps the germs on the screen and reduce the power of the enemies.
and in the endless mode, you aren't given enough opportunity to reproduce. it is very difficult to maintain a population size >5 after stage 20 because 99% of the time the germs end up being consumed by whiteblood cells or destoryed by antibotics. as a result, instead of infecting every single red blood cell you see across the screen, it is more tempting to stay out of the way by not infecting any red blood cells at all, which is certainly against the objective of the game. you should reduce the number of whiteblood cells produced at the begining of each stage to give player time to build up their population.
overall, i liked the concept of the game. it has potential to be developed into some of the best games on newgrounds.

Cool
Basic but fun, enjoyed killing some time with this.
Also enjoyed when I hit lvl 13 and everything went all Pink Floyd on me.

Sorta amusing
Sorta amusing but not good. It gets boring after awhile. It gets harder and harder every level wich is good and not really challenging. It pretty much the same cycle evertime there is nothing new all you do is infect passing blood cells over, over, and over again. You infect a blood cell then you can get more virus and upgrade. The game is to easy though until halfway through the game. Great concept bad game.

Awe man.
I remember when the old game came out. I was addicted to it. And that was on my 9.2 mac. Now X, the game is just as laggy as before, but i swear the view has gotten smaller. I wish there were something new other than the 'disco fever' during gameplay. Possibly sugars could be added, bacteria, and cholesterol... stick on, never get off.
I wasnt as addicted this time around.
I can see this game has made as much improvement as your website... You should really improve this for performance sake.

Some annoying "bugs" to report...
- Sometimes it doesn't matter how many viruses spawn from a blood cell, they never kill a white cell when it was on the blood cell in moment of spawn
- Because of drop'n'drag system you're able to drag those non-immune viruses into area with antibiotic. That is actually good, while dragging already "dead" viruses that just spawned and died to cells and infecting them seems a serious drawback to me.
- The dificculty level around 30-35 stages makes it impossible to play without abusing the bug mentioned earlier. The "black" cells or whatever are invurnable and spawn in too big numbers.
- With about 50% immunity and 6 viruses spawning I should be assured that 3 immune viruses will spawn. Moreover, it should be for certain that at least one immune virus spawns. It didn't. There were plenty of situations when no immune virus spawned while I didn't notice even once for a cell to produce all of them immune. I watched it thoroughly and often bred within vacine, that's why I know. The drag'n'drop bug negates this cons as well.
- I havent tested it, for I maximised birth rate/immunity and strenght of the virus, but I'm pretty much certain that the "passive breeding" ability later on turns to win you everything without you needing to do anything.
an update of the game will follow, but first to address some of the issues you mentioned:
- I don't see how being able to use "dying" germs to infect a blood cell is a drawback. Why shouldn't you be able to save a germ from dying by being fast enough to save it into a red bloodcell before the antibiotics snuff it out?
- Yesss the black cells are almost invulnerable. They turn up in the later levels if there are too many germs on the screen, to clean up some of the infectious population. They later levels are supposed to be incredibly hard, wouldn't be much of a challenge otherwise now, would it? *trollface*
- Do you know what it's called when you have a 50% random chance of immunity and you don't get exactly 3 out of 6 germs to be immune all the time? RANDOM CHANCE
- Regarding auto-infect, I don't think you could win everything without needing to do anything because you would be to weak on the other skill levels. If you're able to pull of virus that plays the game all by itself then you're truly awesome and have won the game.
