An isolated man and his dog discover the horrors that lurk in the forests of the frozen north
That there is honest terror.
The wth moment with the apperance of the creatures threw me off a bit, but considering how after the credits, you demonstrate their true freaky emotions as they go about murdering things kinda restores it.
Point is, its still a story of murder regardless of what the horror looks like, and for what its worth, was very well done. Still, I'd have had their faces change from "cute" to "sadistic" just at the *very last moment* before you cut away from the trapped protagonist, rather than reveal said sadistism as a mere after-credit bonus.
Good job overall. Especially on the quality of the sound, voice acting, and animation.
This was amazing the audio was great and the story was really good. The main guy sounded allot like Marcus Fenix from the Gears of war video game.
Number 1: despite a good build-up (which I will address more below), the story got weaker and more predictable as the ending neared. And that's the first issue I had. Despite the fine storycraft in the first half of the flash, I could see the ending coming a mile away. I found myself enjoying the build-up less and less and wasn't even let down by the "left field" ending because by then, I was already expecting something incredulous. I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't viewed the flash, but it's a letdown in an M. Night Shammalammadingdong way.
Number 2: there was such find attention paid to the artistic detail of the flash that you left plot holes big enough to drive a truck through. Why would an ice fishing hut need a refrigerator? And where is the electrical generator needed to provide electricity? No electric company is going to run an electric line to the middle of a lake. Why a land telephone line? And where is the telephone pole to the middle of the lake to make such an impossibility possible? And how is he able to get a television signal in such a remote location, especially in the age of digital television? Why did the visitors to his cabin leave no footprints, when he and his dog left footprints? Also pertaining to remote locations, how is it that the road is completely clear of snow the day after a snowstorm? I live on the outskirts of an urban area and sometimes it takes 2-3 days for snow to be cleared. I also live part-time in a rural area, and a road as remote as the one you depict will never get cleared at all, until the snow melts in April. It is small lapses in logic and inconsistencies like this that detracted from the overall storytelling and actually took me from a state of suspense to a state of skeptical laughter.
Because the flash is so near techically perfect, and the artwork is about the best you will ever find on NG, I can't go below a 8. But because the ending was telegraphed and weak compared to the rest of the flash, and there were too many plot holes, I can't do anything higher than an 8.
Should of spent some time on the ending
Amazing flash. One of the best I have ever seen. But the ending just sucked. I hate endings where I'm like, "WTF just happened?"
All in all though... you need to make more. You have amazing talent and are going to go really far if you haven't already! :)
I actually got emotional when the dog was mutilated. My jaw dropped at the ending. I DID NOT expect that. I almost wish there was more alternate endings or something more. What if it was ZOMBIES? or NUNS? AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!
Excellent work and ideas. I look forward for more!!
Welcome to the end of the world
Wouldn'tyou just like to... leave conflict.
