This is a short kinetic typography film that I created for an art college assignment during my third semester (second year). It is based on Light Yagami's dramatic speech in the final episode of the highly-acclaimed psychological thriller "Death Note."

For this kinetic typography film, I wanted to reflect and exaggerate the personalities of both speaking characters (i.e. Light Yagami and Nate "Near" River) through the effective use of typography, font and colour.

I hope you enjoy watching this short kinetic typography film as much as I enjoyed creating it! Plus, if you are a fan of Death Note yourself and you enjoyed watching the original series, I hope you like my own interpretation of Light Yagami's dramatic speech as much as the original version! Thank you!

-EDIT: Friday 17th December 10- Won Daily 5th Place again? Wow...Now I definitely know that my Flash animation skills are improving! Plus, this is my first ever Flash animation that received an average score of 4 out of 5, which is considerably a very high score! Thank you everyone for your support and feedback!

Powerful yet minimal - Packs a punch!

I almost didn't check out this video, but I'm sure glad I did. It's interesting to see that by perhaps the middle, the audience is just a little emphatic, regardless of context of how he got here, for Kira. And by the end, it's a little harder to decide with the 2 characters juxtaposed where to really stand. The voicing for Kira feels strongly influenced by NGE, specifically the english dub for Shinji Ikari(Spike Lee), when he's screaming.

Highly reccomended for those with an open mind. Oh by the way, 70% crime rate just isn't enough... it should be OVER 9-.... ah forget it.

Wow...What a thorough, descriptive evaluation! You must have carefully listened to the speech for a thorough analysis! Very well done!

Try mixing up some more fonts

It would be a ten, but the fonts started to annoy me, and when they shook, it lagged at times.

UnknownHedgehog responds:

Well, I didn't want to use too many fonts in order to maintain a specific amount of simplicity. As for the shaking, I'm sorry to hear that the animation lagged for you. I really should take graphic capabilities into account in the future.

i love near

humans should have the right to make war. war is progress, but a more violent form of it. i love it how near puts light in his place, but L is always the best, i think he always knew light was kira, but Light was also his friend, that is why he tried to believe light wasn't kira. even though light was killed by Ryuk at the end, if you watch the recap animated movie, you will see that the shinigami that was talking to ryuk and gave him an apple was Light turnied into a shinigami, just look at the clothes and the way he threw the apple. but the creator will never comment on that, that detail is for each fan to decide on their own and speculate

UnknownHedgehog responds:

I'm aware of the whole Shinigami reincarnation theory, but why are you commenting on such a topic in a review?
