Richard Farkas speaks to an indie game developer!
This is the first Gamer Tonight episode I've done in over 2 years! It was done for as an interval comedy skit for the "Inside Gaming Awards" that Machinima.com host each year. Enjoy!
I hate today's culture
I really don't like people who go out of their way just so that they can break out of the mainstream to be "original" and "artistic".
Take the hipster for example. Even though they break from the mainstream, most of them are mainstream hipsters.
The only indie games that I'll truly respect are the ones who develop games simply because it's what they love doing. I don't see this problem occurring in the developers as portrayed in this video, but with indie games on the rise and mainstream games doing a little SUCKING lately, I see this as inevitable.
Just thought I'd post my useless opinion somewhere.
I would've liked it to be longer, but ah well...
*goes to play a game with jetpacks*
ho shit that was on machinima...LOL MONEY VOMIT BWWWAAAAAARF
The small guy
Truly brings to light the idea of the "inocent small guy" making it big. I'll continue to give my money to the better company, not the smaller one.
could have done more with it
It wasn't bad, but I feel like the ending was a bit of a cop-out. while random silliness is easy, it is admittedly pretty cheep humor. even in a short animation, i think you could have done more with the concept.
even if having an indie artist ranting about the brilliance and depth behind a obviously lame piece of work is an overused and stereotypical joke, it is still better than random and silly, IMO. heck, there are still plenty of other options. have him go on a journey to discover himself and speak to an elder guru living on a mountain, or have a montage where his career grows and he becomes wildly successful and the old "indie" becomes the mainstream and nintendo is indie (just to name two ideas off the top of my head)
it doesn't have to be complicated or more difficult, just more original next time, please
