Play is an animated short about a Forest Dude and his buddy, who happens to be a bird. While having just the most joyous time for the both of them, the bird is dramatically hurt! For a term project in my DMT Course in college we had to basically make some type of "Media" project in any shape, like 3D animation, a website, graphic design, movie. I decided to mix After Effects with Photoshop and Flash and see what I could do. The project that I made is kind of a Bitey of Brackenwood remix, I was definitely influenced by that, and a desire to paint lots of green plant stuff.
I think I'm going to actually try to do some work in ToonBoom now too, it seems sweet.

Very nice!
I loved the animation, and although the story was simplistic, I still liked it. The Bitey-ness of the cartoon comes from the main character, who strongly resembles Bitey. His movement and the environment are different from Bitey; Bitey moves fast and tends to avoid trees, while this character uses them to build momentum, propelling him around. The environment is a little less alien compared to Brackenwood, which is nice, too.
Breaking down the story, the only 'alien' other than the main character was the tree trunk flower. It seems that the main character disrupts the balance of nature, and the alien plant corrects it. I might be poking at something that isn't there, but that's just what I see here.
A very well done cartoon.

3D layers
did you use the 3D layers in flash, or was that the After Effects part you mentioned. I haven't really seen anyone use the 3D layers, but the results would look similar to what you have there.
I did notice some stiff parts. Especially when he's carrying the dead bird and his back is stiff as a board. definanly an opertunity to have posing tell the character's emotions. He should look sad in that part, he looked like he had a back brace there. A lot of good stuff though. That end pose was humorus.
I did the character animations in flash, the backgorunds in photoshop, and everything mixed together into 3D space in after effects.
3D layers in after effects are also like 9000000x more powerful than flash's 2.5d feature.
Good catch on the stiff back thing too.

Little to spontaneous
animation was great though. Did you take so inspiration from Bitey?
Sure did! It said so in the author comments!
