The person at the front of the line was one of the scientists from Black Mesa. Trivia point: He is holding an orange crystal. So wow, the cause of the Resonance Cascade that caused the Black Mesa incident and changed life on Earth as we know it was a Xen crystal purchased at Wal-Mart.
