Hello once again Newgrounders, and welcome to Bomboozle 2, where your job is to clear the island of as many of the pesky blob invaders as possible! There are now two ways of clearing blobs - the first is to simply click a group of 3 or more of the same colour, then click again. The second is to hold the left mouse button to draw a line over a chain of blobs, then let go to destroy them - both methods have their uses! Try toggling one-click mode with the space bar for rapid blob annihilation!

If you're able to clear a group of 5 or more then you'll be rewarded with a rather handy bomb which can clear a load of blobs in one go - just click a bomb twice to detonate it. If you're smart then you can chain multiple bomb explosions together to rack up stacks of points! A word of warning though - try to avoid clearing groups of 3 as a skull will be dropped in to the board which can only be removed with a bomb!

As you progress you'll come across new blobs which will make your life even more difficult than it already is. Fortunately though you have all new special abilities which are represented by the pots at the bottom of the screen. As you clear blobs these pots fill up, and once full you can use them to help you with a variety of things, such as destroying skulls and removing troublesome blobs at the bottom of the board.

There are many different ways to play Bomboozle 2, so develop your own strategy and go for the top score! There's a handy little surprise waiting for you if you an unlock all of the of luck, and happy Bomboozling!

PS. Thanks to NG users "steffen144", "noxus21" not to mention "fewmenleft" via Twitter, version 0.4.9 now has a few bug fixes and improvements. For example, collecting the treasure on your last move in 100 Moves mode will actually end the game properly now, multiple bombs can no longer be selected (massive bug I somehow missed!), but to make up for this the green potion will now kill the masked skulls outright.

PPS. Just uploaded version 0.5.0. Thanks to further input from "fewmenleft", I've now adjusted the "Destroy the bottom 3 rows" powerup so that it destroys all blobs outright - previously, megaskulls would just lose their mask and frozen blobs would only thaw out.

PPS. Thanks to Tom for the front page action! Just fixed another bug too - didn't realise that the last three pots weren't filling properly, so that's now fixed; ie. skulls should fill the white pot, wildcards should fill the rainbow pot, and bombs should fill the black pot. Don't know how we missed that, but there you go.

PPPS! Fixed an issue with the treasure not always reappearing, which is of course pretty important for getting that last medal. :)

PPPPS. ;) A few people (particularly WtfNinja and Morgomir) mentioned that they didn't think the game should end if you still had pots filled which could get you out of trouble, so I've now updated the game to allow for this. It did require a fair bit of code rewriting though, so let me know if any bugs pop up! The latest version is v0.5.6 - thanks for everyone's feedback and comments. :)

I like it! One request I have is an option to turn off the "hint" arrow. Personally, I don't think enough points are given for long chains, or for treasure.

i would like to say this is one of the better games on the site, but would like report a few glitchs and make a few sugesttions.
i noticed a strange glitch. whenever you dont have any moves left but your purple pot is filled and ONLY your purple pot is filled, the game thinks you can keep going. it is very confusing.
also why dont you include a fire brick you gain that melts ice blobs into normal ones but melts non-frozen blobs. and maybe even powers up skulls defeence (giving it a mask power up).
also when 2 or more wild cards are conected should they make a big wild card?
Also can you make it so you can kill that anooying monkey? please... for christmas.

Very cool little game.

I wanted to join up here and tell you how much I enjoy this little gem and why. First off, while it is true that many games use a similar formula, I think the addition of bombs for 5 or more blobs of the same color being destroyed is great. The best part is the buckets that fill up over time and have different effects to the game play. The graphics are simple but effective, the music is catchy and fun. Lastly, and most importantly the game is fun and well balanced.

I noticed you have already ported a version of this to I-phone which I think is a great idea. I haven't had a chance to try that out yet as I don't have an I phone myself but I'm sure it's a blast..litterally :P. One thing I did think of though is maybe porting this to the Nintendo DS if at all possible. A good way you might be able to do it is try to get in contact with a small game publisher and have it available to download through DSi ware.

I realize porting this to a game console is a little harder than an i phone since both of those use flash and the DS doesn't. But I did think of a few ideas if you ever could have a chance at that. :)

First off, what about a VS mode? If the arrangement of both players grids started off in random configurations it would interesting. The easiest way to determine a winner could be who has the highest score at the end. However, I thought it would be awesome if there was more frantic interaction. For example every time you destroy 5 or more blobs it gives you a blob but your opponent a skull. You can use the top screen to see what your opponent is doing while the bottom touch screen you use for yourself. (This could also be an online mode idea for Bomboozle 3!)

It would be neat to have little buttons in the corner of your screen to switch between one click and draw mode for the DS version of the game. I also thought of having an option to adjust the amount of moves or time limit you had to increase your modes.

Maybe a 3 minute, 5 minute, and 10 minute modes. Or 50, 100, and 200, move modes. I also thought that there could be different types of bombs created depending on how many blobs you destroy. Bigger bombs for bigger chains/combos? I don't know dude, I am just throwing things out there. In any case I hope I didn't overload your brain, and keep up the good work :).

Megadev responds:

Hey Jredd, thanks for the great feedback and suggestions. :-) We've love to bring the game to the DS but we don't have the skills or equipment ourselves - if there's anyone out there who might be able to help then do get in touch! I think a VS mode would be a lot of fun although it could take quite a bit of time to balance properly. It's definitely something we're considering for future versions though, and I like the idea of sending a skull over to your opponent; rather like Puyo Puyo which is an old favourite of mine. :-)

The extra game modes are a good idea too - they will definitely make it in to Bomboozle 3! Believe it or not, we did actually try out different bomb types in the Bomboozle 2 prototype, each with varying sizes of explosions, but it actually made the game almost too strategic as you had to figure out the explosion size of each bomb just by looking at it, and it made my head hurt. :-O It could be something we explore again in the future though - perhaps a game mode in itself. :-) Anyway, thanks for getting in touch and it's always nice to hear from fans of the game!

We're sorry! We'll try to make Bomboozle 3 less addictive and fun! ;-)
