Presenting my latest (and very delayed :)) game, MutaStorm.

Edit: The controls are:
Arrows: Move
Z: Jump
X: Fire
C: Use item
Space: Access inventory
A: Switch character

MutaStorm is an old school action platformer about saving the World from a dire threat from outer space. Same ol' same ol'.

The graphics were drawn using MS Paint and edited using GIMP. The entire game is rendered to a bitmap to preserve that nice pixely look. Also, this is the first game in which I implemented Stereo sound.

The music in the game was downloaded from the Newgrounds Audio portal and were made by:
MetaKnowledge - Lost in 8-Bit Space
rangerdang3r - Introspect
ThumperHill - 8-Bit MP3
digitaldamage - Dungeon (8-Bit Series)
Deniz Akbulut (Intero) - 8-Bit Cavetheme
Coffee-Break - Vortex - [8-bit]
dashmyoku - 14 (8-Bit WIP)
Erich (EliteFerrex) - 8-bit Against the Odds
Kimken - Kim - Old melody 8-bitted
Will (Willrock07) - 8 Bit Madness
MashedByMachines - -[8-bit] Glitcher

(Seriously great tunes, you guys rawk!)

The sound effects are from and were made by Raphael 'HardPCM' Couturier ( and StaneStane and are licensed under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 license.

too hard as it is

8bit sounds and graphix are aweso, except for maybe the faces as mentioned before.
Overall it's just too fast, you barely have 1 second to live if you fall in some enemies because they deal 5 bars of damage per shot.
For instance I gave up after 20 tries or so at the giant red robot thing at the maintenance deck, cuz ya know, EMP doesnt work on that robot :S
At the 21st try finally getting past it only to find out there are more..

Way too fast!
But good!

Not much there

After several minutes of play not enough has happened to keep my attention. A bunch of story dialog windows is not playing a game. It's watching one.

Music was OK.

Oh cool, another game where you run into a place where it totally isn't self-evident what the hell to do. So I'm sitting the the bottom of the ocean, and I was TOTALLY randomly told to select a battery. The message was so fast and random and I just fell to the bottom. I held space and selected the battery a hundred times. I'm just stuck here. I've pressed every combination of keys I can even think to press. So, I guess I'm giving up because you failed to list what I'm supposed to do. Thanks a lot.

I'm docking you a whole four points just for principle. This isn't the first game I've played like this and I'm sick and tired of authors just assuming that we're supposed to know what the hell to do. Seriously dude, wtf am I supposed to press? Idk, maybe LIST IT ON THE SCREEN? Ever think of that?

Music is great, and the graphics are okay. The whole game up to this point was just kind of me searching around for something, then it turned into me searching for what button to press, and I'm giving up because it's ridiculous. I've pressed all the obvious keys and tried everything, and this is just completely retarded.

Thanks for wasting my time. I have no idea what happens in later levels, and even if you fix the game, I won't be replaying the game just for principle.

Donitz responds:

The controls are explained in the dialogue messages which do not disappear by themselves. But just in case I put them in the description as well. As explained. Use C to use the equipped item.

I really don't know what to think about the game.
The graphics are great... except for the character's faces... the only issue is that the game doesn't appear to fit within the parameters of the flash window.
The gameplay is kinda clunky.
It is difficult to tell which platforms you can/cant stand on... which ones you can jump up through/which ones you cant.
If one of those little red things lands on your head, you cant get it off, and basically just die, (or if you are lucky it will jump off on its own.)
The level where you play as the scientist right before meeting the alien, is pretty damn difficult, and I had to retry 25 times to beat it.
Another thing that sucks is that if you fall down in some areas, there is no way to get back up, and you must kill yourself on an enemy and start over.
It just feels like you put fancy graphics on an unfinished project to me,

Donitz responds:

If you get one of the walking flesh enemies on your head (not a scripted event, but it looked good so I left it it) jumping a couple of times usually makes it fall off.

Yeah, your only option in some places is to kill yourself to make the game load. It was either that or put an instant death trap in every pit of the game, and that just seemed a bit monotonous.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep it in mind for my next game.
